About M.2 SSD screws

Crucial's M.2 SSDs, both PCIe® and SATA-based, do not include screws to secure them within a system. While this may result in trouble completing an installation, the reason for this is that due to system variations a universally compatible screw is not available. Typically, the screw as well as an offset for the screw to seat into are preinstalled in a ready-built system, or included in the packaging for your motherboard if built by the end-user, so that you have a screw which will fit perfectly in your system.

If the necessary screws are not available, the best source for parts will be your system or motherboard manufacturer, who can confirm the model you have and exactly what part specification is needed, possibly providing you with options for direct replacement or at least exact details on what to purchase from third party sources.

A relatively common size for replacement screws is an M2x3mm. This can be used with Crucial SSDs, but be cautious not to force this screw into place if it's not the right fit for your system. Rather than forcing the wrong threading or length into place and possibly damaging your hardware, consult your support resources for the appropriate parts needed to complete the SSD installation.
