This is my second memory update from Crucial for my 13" MacBookPro (early 2011). I went from 4GB to 10GB (adding one 8GB chip in 2015) to 16GB (adding the second 8GB chip in May 2016).

I use web based apps for my e-commerce business. I was having to force quit my browsers (Safari and Firefox) several times a day as the dreaded beachball popped up. No more.

I also upgraded my solid state drive with a Crucial drive last year. I couldn't be more please with the extended life I've gotten out of my MacBookPro from these easy upgrades. Just do it.

Installed two 8GB modules into a mid 2011 iMac. Pulled out the original 4GB as to not interfere with the new 16GB. The good news is the system seems to boot and run with no errors, but there is no noticeable improvement in performance. I thinking that maybe I should have installed four 4GB modules instead, since Apple says the system can only support a max of 16GB. I installed two 8GB because Crucial said I could install 32GB total. Needless to say, I won't be wasting anymore money on the extra 16GB. Something else to note is that Kingston only sells 4GB modules for my iMac. Maybe I should have based my purchase according to Apple and Kingston specs.

    Right product, works great

Comments about Crucial 8GB DDR3L-1333 SODIMM Memory for Mac:

Upgraded my Macbook Pro, early 2011, model 8.1, 2.3 Ghz, i5 processor from the 4Gb ram it came with to 16Gb. Worked perfectly and the increased performance was very noticeable. The instructions on this website were accurate. The hardest part was finding the right screwdriver to take off the back of the machine. Based on this experience, I would definitely buy upgrades from Crucial again.

Comments about Crucial 8GB DDR3L-1333 SODIMM Memory for Mac:

The only bit of confusion is they have product #'s associated with certain Mac's - for instance I bought memory for mac book pro and a mac mini.

They have different product #'s with specific notes saying they are for specific models.

when delivered - there was no such distinction - after a chat - it ends up even though they have dif product #'s & descriptions they are the exact same item.

Comments about Crucial 8GB DDR3L-1333 SODIMM Memory for Mac:

The demands I have for my mac are starting to push so far beyond what it is capable of, that I was in severe need of an upgrade. I'm using it more and more for high speed video editing, 4k videos, large excel spreadsheets, etc. It was severely underpowered. I'm now using 10 GB of RAM (2 & 8) and the improvements are significant. App launch times went from 30 - 60 seconds to about 10 seconds. Most apps close instantly now, where before they could take 30 seconds to finally quit.

Largest difference in performance: Finder. Nothing seems to take any time loading like it did before.

Most insignificant change: Final Cut Pro video editing. This is still laggy, but that is more due to my undersized video card, processors, and ancient hard drive.

Of course unless you're a computer expert this is going to be a little challenging to install especially because Apple uses Loctite on it's screws. Getting the bottom card in is most challenging but after that it's not too bad. All in all an excellent purchase! Feels like a brand new computer!

I am a very casual user of a 2011 MacBook Pro. It was becoming a huge challenge to do the simplest things due to the endless spinning of the beach ball of death. My plan was to replace the 4GB with 16GB of RAM and upgrade the 500GB hard drive with 750GB SSD. I started with the RAM and the performance was greatly improved. Once I added the SSD, it was even better. I did both upgrades myself after watching some YouTube videos and reading a couple of articles. Upgrading to El Capitan added yet another level of improved performance. Perfection! I am looking forward to getting a few more good years out of my Mac.
