Upgrade with a drive you can count on
With thousands of hours of pre-release validation, dozens of SSD qualification tests, and a heritage of award- winning SSDs, the Crucial MX500 has been thoroughly tried, tested, and proven. Secure your most important files on a drive with established dependability and these advanced features.

    1. Hardware-based encryption: Keep personal files and confidential data restricted from hackers and thieves with AES 256-bit encryption that meets all industry standards, including Microsoft® eDrive, IEEE- 1667, and TCG Opal 2.0.
    2. Integrated Power Loss Immunity: Avoid unintended data loss when the power unexpectedly goes out. This built-in feature of our new NAND protects your data swiftly and efficiently, so if your system suddenly shuts down, you keep all your saved work.
    3. Exclusive Data Defense: Prevent your photos, music, videos, and other files from becoming corrupted and unusable with layers of error correction and adaptive read technology.
    4. Redundant Array of Independent NAND: Protect your data at the component level with an SSD that automatically provides parity protection for your data. This high-end feature works similarly to how RAID is used with multiple hard drives and maintains the integrity of your data, especially for intense users.
    5. Built-in durability: Because SSDs don’t use moving parts that wear out over time (unlike hard drives), your files are less susceptible to a crash. SSDs are better equipped to survive physical trauma, like getting dropped, because they don’t rely on mechanical parts.

    Install with confidence
For many people, opening a computer and transferring data seems terrifying. That’s why we’ve made it easy in the step-by-step Crucial SSD Install Guide. Check it out before you buy, then install your own SSD quickly with everything transferred over successfully and hassle-free.

Micron® quality – a higher level of reliability.
As a brand of Micron, one of the largest flash storage manufacturers in the world, the Crucial MX500 is backed by the same quality and engineering innovation that has produced some of the world’s most advanced memory and storage technologies for more than 35 years. Split-second speeds, lasting reliability, and a decades-long legacy – upgrading with the Crucial MX500 gives you the best combination of quality, performance, and security. It’s worth it.

My son's hard drive on his Macbook Pro crashed. The only replacement offered by Apple (at the store) was a SATA drive. This SSD drive was the same size and slightly less cost than the SATA drive, because Apple was also going to install it. One word of warning, you need to purchase a hard drive that is compatible with the components of your computer and Apple is constantly changing them. It was so easy to purchase the correct hard drive on Crucial. Once Apple confirmed the build (Macbook Pro 13, 2012) was able to select it from the menu. We installed the hard drive ourselves (how to video on YouTube) , then had Apple install the OS, and luckily we had backupped just a week before it crashed. That is the one takeaway - back up your hard drive at least monthly if not weekly to an external drive - they are so cheap now.

The computer is so much faster with this SSD drive. My son composes music and he tells me it takes 5 seconds to write something to the drive that previously took over a minute. So all you people with Macbook Pros with SATA drives have to consider upgrading to this SSD drive.

I attempted to install this into my Dell Inspiron 13, 5000 series and since this unit doesn't have but one SATA header, I tried to install with a USB adapter. I followed Crucial instructions and downloaded the software to clone the drive from Crucial site but the SSD couldn't be seen. Tech support sent me a link to an exe that got around that issue, but when I tried to clone, the internal drive was reporting a different sector count than the USB attached SSD.

I ended up pulling my laptop drive out, and hooking it and the SSD up to SATA connectors on a tower PC I had. I had to download the Crucial software to clone the drive as several others I tried just wouldn't let the SSD boot on the laptop. After several hours I finally got a good load and boot.

The performance of the SSD is great as compared to the spinning drive that it replaced. I love the quick boot up time of SSD.

Comments about Crucial MX500 500GB SATA 2.5-inch 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal SSD:

I had issues getting my computer to recognize the new drive when attempting to clone to it. I had to try two USB to SATA connectors, the second I got by disassembling a portable hard drive. (The first worked on conventional hard drives, but not this one.) Then I had to format the new drive, but I still got a software error telling me I didn't have a Crucial product installed. Eventually I found a forum where someone had posted a technical solution which involved downloading and running a patch like program multiple times. But in the end, the great performance and helpful on-line selection program leads to a 5-Star review.

This SSD replaces a hard disk (320gb spinner) and the access speed is much faster.
The installation is straight forward. The USB cable and connector to the SSD is very useful and is much better than the old casing technology.
    thanks Crucial/Micron.

Great buying experience! I approved the website to scan my laptop to determine the SSD that would work. It made several suggestion. I chose one (MX500, 250Gb) and installed it without any problems. It works great ! Very fast.

Comments about Crucial MX500 500GB SATA 2.5-inch 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal SSD:

After installation with another SSD, bought previously, my laptop functioned like lighting in a bottle, 13 hours later my laptop couldn't find any hard drives, couldn't detect any boot device, after 10 hours of troubleshooting the only time it saw any thing was in legacy mode, and if you know ssd's they won't run in legacy. So it ended up with me having to wipe drives and reinstall everything. Not sure why that this happened or how. But over all my experience with the product, was a little difficult to install, seemed a hair thicker than it should of been, but installed and read with no issues, though I can say crucial software would not read my hp Notebook-15-bs0xx aka HP Notebook Jaguar.

I upgraded my HP Elitebook 2760p running win 10pro from a 320GB drive to the 500GB SSD. I immediately notice a massive change in boot up time; from 30plus seconds to 15 seconds with the new SSD. There has also been a slight extension of battery life. I would highly recommend this drive for anyone who likes their old convertible laptop.
