I use web based apps for my e-commerce business. I was having to force quit my browsers (Safari and Firefox) several times a day as the dreaded beachball popped up. No more.

I also upgraded my solid state drive with a Crucial drive last year. I couldn't be more please with the extended life I've gotten out of my MacBookPro from these easy upgrades. Just do it.

    Right product, works great

    By S.G.

    from Grand Rapids, Michigan

Upgraded my Macbook Pro, early 2011, model 8.1, 2.3 Ghz, i5 processor from the 4Gb ram it came with to 16Gb. Worked perfectly and the increased performance was very noticeable. The instructions on this website were accurate. The hardest part was finding the right screwdriver to take off the back of the machine. Based on this experience, I would definitely buy upgrades from Crucial again.

      Best Uses

The demands I have for my mac are starting to push so far beyond what it is capable of, that I was in severe need of an upgrade. I'm using it more and more for high speed video editing, 4k videos, large excel spreadsheets, etc. It was severely underpowered. I'm now using 10 GB of RAM (2 & 8) and the improvements are significant. App launch times went from 30 - 60 seconds to about 10 seconds. Most apps close instantly now, where before they could take 30 seconds to finally quit.

Largest difference in performance: Finder. Nothing seems to take any time loading like it did before.

Most insignificant change: Final Cut Pro video editing. This is still laggy, but that is more due to my undersized video card, processors, and ancient hard drive.

I accidentally bought one 8 GB stick instead of two 4's because I didn't pay enough attention to the product descriptions. I don't regret it! Unless you're doing some major video editing or gaming, which you probably aren't with a 2011 13-inch MBP, you don't need the dual channel benefit of two 4 GB sticks. So now I have 10 GB of RAM (this 8 plus one of the original 2 GB), and it's like I can't use it all! It's like a whole new computer! So much faster!
