Experience a faster, cooler, and quieter computer in your home or business. You’ll wonder how you ever put up with a hard drive.

Upgrade with a drive you can count on

With thousands of hours of pre-release validation, dozens of SSD qualification tests, and a heritage of award- winning SSDs, the Crucial MX500 has been thoroughly tried, tested, and proven. Secure your most important files on a drive with established dependability and these advanced features.

    1. Hardware-based encryption: Keep personal files and confidential data restricted from hackers and thieves with AES 256-bit encryption that meets all industry standards, including Microsoft ® eDrive, IEEE- 1667, and TCG Opal 2.0.
    2. Integrated Power Loss Immunity: Avoid unintended data loss when the power unexpectedly goes out. This built-in feature of our new NAND protects your data swiftly and efficiently, so if your system suddenly shuts down, you keep all your saved work.
    3. Exclusive Data Defense: Prevent your photos, music, videos, and other files from becoming corrupted and unusable with layers of error correction and adaptive read technology.
    4. Redundant Array of Independent NAND: Protect your data at the component level with an SSD that automatically provides parity protection for your data. This high-end feature works similarly to how RAID is used with multiple hard drives and maintains the integrity of your data, especially for intense users.
    5. Built-in durability: Because SSDs don’t use moving parts that wear out over time (unlike hard drives), your files are less susceptible to a crash. SSDs are better equipped to survive physical trauma, like getting dropped, because they don’t rely on mechanical parts.

    Install with confidence

For many people, opening a computer and transferring data seems terrifying. That’s why we’ve made it easy in the step-by-step Crucial SSD Install Guide. Check it out before you buy, then install your own SSD quickly with everything transferred over successfully and hassle-free.

Micron ® quality – a higher level of reliability.

Split-second speeds, lasting reliability, and a decades-long legacy – upgrading with the Crucial MX500 gives you the best combination of quality, performance, and security. It’s worth it.

Purchased two 500 MX 500 GB SSDs for two laptops. The price was right and online review gave Crucial high marks. A bonus was Crucial offering a SATA/USB cable for $10 which made the cloning process easy. Also, the cloning software was Acronis which I did not know until I had received the drives. This was a second bonus. The cloning process took less than an hour and a half and was very easy. Swapping the drives in the laptop is a no-brainer. I was pleasantly surprised at how fast the laptops booted up--less than 10 seconds for one laptop and a few seconds longer for the other. SSDs have been fairly expensive until recently. 500 GB was all I needed, so again, the price was now right for me to justify my spending. I always replace hard drives before they fail (based on age) so an SSD was right. Crucial has not disappointed.

I attempted to install this into my Dell Inspiron 13, 5000 series and since this unit doesn't have but one SATA header, I tried to install with a USB adapter. I followed Crucial instructions and downloaded the software to clone the drive from Crucial site but the SSD couldn't be seen. Tech support sent me a link to an exe that got around that issue, but when I tried to clone, the internal drive was reporting a different sector count than the USB attached SSD.

I ended up pulling my laptop drive out, and hooking it and the SSD up to SATA connectors on a tower PC I had. I had to download the Crucial software to clone the drive as several others I tried just wouldn't let the SSD boot on the laptop. After several hours I finally got a good load and boot.

The performance of the SSD is great as compared to the spinning drive that it replaced. I love the quick boot up time of SSD.

Comments about Crucial MX500 500GB SATA 2.5-inch 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal SSD:

I've been using a Dell Inspiron 545 for about 8 years and it was really getting slow and hanging up. The analysis of the hard drive was giving me error messages and saying I needed to replace the hard drive. I finally decided to try it. Wasn't sure with an older computer, but it was so worth it. The Crucial SSD restored my computer to like new, if not even better.

I swapped out my regular 500GB hard drive on my i5 laptop with a Crucial MX500 SSD, and I have never before experienced any computer upgrade making as big a difference in a computer. I have upgraded desktop computers by adding an SSD as a boot drive, but with my laptop, the Crucial SS is the only drive, and now everything POPS! Boot, programs loading, everything. Wow, what a difference.

I finally took the plunge and bought the MX500 500GB from Crucial, after holding out and continuing to use hard disk drives all these years. I am pleased with what I see in features and performance, and there is a 5 yr warranty to make me comfortable should there be any issues going forward. I bought a second MX500 for another computer. Have used Crucial memory for years and always been happy with that. The Crucial - Micron version of Acronis True Image software works great, and so does the Storage Executive software. My only remaining wish would be to include the ability to run the "trim" function manually from within Storage Executive for use in Windows 7.

I've been plagued with drive slow downs for some time. Defragging and error checking did NOT help anymore. My drive access times were horrible. After installing my new SSD things were absolutely fabulous.Access times went from over 35 down to less than 4. Talk about supercharging my system.
My days using rotating media are numbered.
