After downloading El Capitan, my system ran soooo slow. Discovered that this OS was memory hoggish. Chatted with Apple Support and found out my system was vintage and no longer supported for upgrades. The Apple Support specialist said that he knew where I could get the memory I needed. Ordered 2-8 Gig kits from Crucial on a Saturday and got them by Friday. Before doing the install, I printed the installations instructions from Apple Support and set to work. I am almost 68 and for me the install took about 10 minutes (took the time to vacuum out the dust). Installation went just as I expected it would, slight difficulty pushing the chips into place but otherwise everything went fine. Reconnected the cables, powered up which took an extra few seconds for the system to adjust to the new chips and was off and running. System speed greatly improved, runs like it did when new out of the box.

    Tech support is lousy

Ram works as advertised. Needed help from tech support. Started a live chat, after waiting 16 minutes for someone to enter the chat I closed it out.

I got the wrong RAM recommended by my computer's manufacturer. Crucial's team stepped in to recommend the correct RAM. The install was simple and the results great.

Crucial helped me find the memory by displaying my computer type on their site (late 2009 iMac) It worked perfectly the first time I plugged it in, and my roommate bought the same upgrade for his computer based on my recommendation.

                    Can't see a huge difference

I wanted to upgrade my RAM on an imac late 2009 model from 4 GB to 12 GB.
I have used Crucial before so ordered again--even though price was higher than I wanted to pay. Memory came quicker than I expected--less than 2 weeks to an overseas location. Installation was quick and easy!
One caveat: I don't see a noticeable difference in speed (guess I need an upgraded processor). However I wanted to have it for movie editing and haven't tried that yet. Overall, I am happy with my purchase.
