Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

A dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The gold pins on the bottom of the DIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a DIMM are not connected to each other.
184-pin DIMMs are used to provide DDR SDRAM memory for desktop computers. Standard 184-pin DIMMs are available in PC1600 DDR SDRAM, PC2100 DDR SDRAM, PC2700 DDR SDRAM, and PC3200 DDR SDRAM.
To use DDR memory, your system motherboard must have 184-pin DIMM slots and a DDR-enabled chipset. A DDR SDRAM DIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM DIMM socket. (Information about which memory technology your system uses is included in the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool.)
The number of black components on a 184-pin DIMM can vary, but it always has 92 pins on the front and 92 pins on the back, for a total of 184. 184-pin DIMMs are approximately 5.25 inches long and 1.25 inches high, though the heights can vary. While 184-pin DIMMs and 168-pin DIMMs are approximately the same size, 184-pin DIMMs have only one notch within the row of pins.

Q:Will this work with the iMac Power PC G5, 1.8ghz 17"? I ordered it, then saw another DIMM noted as being specifically for this model of IMac.
A:Yes this will be fine for your system as you need DDR RAM.
Q:is this 2gb kit something i can install myself?
A:Yes you can install this kit yourself. You can find the instructions on Apples website:
Q:Are these low or high density chips?
A:1GB DDR memory does not suffer from any density issues, they all have 16 chips so there will be no issues with density for this part. All our memory is made with the best quality DRAM and to JEDEC standard.
Q:does it use the high density or low density ram?
A:These are standard low density parts.
Q:Is this pc3200 memory dual channel?
A:Your Dell system supports the dual-channel function and as long as you install a kit (identical matching modules) then this will be activated in your system.
A:I'm pretty sure it's dual channel. The slots are separated by twos. I can use either 2GB kit(1GBx2)or 2-2GB kit(1GBx4) doesn't have to be installed in kits, any amount I want to install. I have had less amount of ram 128's without the matching kits but the Greatest performance is with matching kits! 8300 Dimension, purrs like a kitten. No reintall for 7 years and still counting. I used ADOBE PHOTOSHOP FOR "PROFESSIONAL PHOTO RETOUCH TRAINING". . . . A POWERFUL APPLICATION! ZIPPED RIGHT THROUGH. . . WITHOUT A PROBLEM!
Q:Current PC is a Gateway 510 XL. I currently have 1Gig of RAM which consists of two 512M modules mounted in slots 1 and 3 of the available 4 slots. Can I add the additional two 1Gig modules for a total of 3 Gig or do all the modules have to be the same type? In which case I would only purchase two 512M modules and end up with a total of 2Gig of RAM. I am running windows XP which is 32bit. Thanks!
A:Adding 2 x 1GB modules into the available slots would be fine. Your system runs with Dual Channel so the best performance would come from adding a 2GB kit which would guarantee you got a matching pair of 1GB modules.
Q:I have a Dell Optiplex 170L, why is the 2GB kit not compatible but the individual 1GB sticks are?
A:The Optiplex 170L can support 2GB of memory over the 2 slots (1GB per slot) so a 2GB module would not work.
Q:Will it be compatible with my Gateway 706GH ? I have 512 mg memory right now.
A:Yes this will indeed be fully compatible.
Q:What can I do to maximize performance and stability for my emachine T3418 on top of the memory upgrade? I heard that adding the 64 bit windows would help it alot, but I dont know if this computer can support it? What would recommend on top of the 2 gb memory upgrade?
A:Unfortunately we can only recommend memory as we dont manufacture other computer components.
Q:Can you tell me if this memory chip is high density or low density? Would like to use high density memory if my Dell OptiPlex GX270 (small form factor) supports the same. Please confirm as soon as possible.
A:Crucial.com only provides one density for that specific memory module. DDR memory has only been manufactured in low density modules and as it is an older memory type, it is unlikely to be reviewed in the future.
