Super fast. Makes old laptop seem new again
The new SSD drive to replace the hard drive and increasing the RAM from 4 to 8GB makes my Toshiba laptop run so fast, but at a fraction of the cost of a new laptop. I was surprised a 256GB drive is under $100 and it is worth every penny to not have the frustration of a slow responding computer. I had two problems when trying to clone the hard drive. The first problem was the cloning software would not load. This was quickly resolved by chatting with a customer service rep who provided a link to a file that my computer needed. The second problem was the cloning would abort with the reboot. By then, Micron was closed, but on-line support listed the exact problem and a fix. Since my computer was originally a Windows 8 machine (now running 10), I needed to turn off "Secure Boot". I am no computer expert and I was able to follow the steps to turn it off and quickly back to cloning. Don't be intimidated. A little patience and you will be very satisfied with an upgrade to an SSD.
I love the hard drive. It makes my computer boot up much faster and improve its performance.
The MX300 series are a solid product. I continue to utilize the SSD to remove the performance bottleneck of traditional rotational platter hard drives and reduce probability of data loss due to shock or drop events.
I appreciate the supplied Acronis software as I use it to clone the existing drive and avoid having to reinstall any software. [To do so you must have hardware that will allow you to connect the new MX300 drive, while the current drive is intact. Some systems will have that built in, but I commonly use a SATA to USB external adapter. ~$15 -$20]
I bought the MX300 SSD along with the 8gb ram kit for my (mid-2009) Macbook about 6 months ago. Yeah, I was running a slow 320gb for 7 years! I cannot believe how happy I have been with my crucial SSD. I clean installed OS X El Capitan from a flash drive and my Crucial Hardware has been flawless. Not a single hiccup. My Macbook runs cooler and so much quicker. Simple day to day task aren't "task" anymore, such as booting up, shutting down, moving from application to application, opening up documents etc. Everything is just so smooth and quick. This was highly recommended after scouring forums and I'm so glad I made the decision to purchase. It has truly changed my day to day.
This is my first SSD. The hard drive in my Toshiba S55-b5280 began to fail, so I thought I'd finally try an SSD. Installing the drive was "plug and play" once I got the laptop underside apart. Once installed, the computer fired up, the BIOS recognized the drive, and I had Windows 10 installed in 20 minutes. I am absolutely amazed how fast this computer is without a traditional hard drive -- it's like I have a new computer, but astonishingly faster. Windows 10 fully boots to the desktop in less than 10 seconds. In retrospect, hard drive failure was the best thing to happen to my laptop. I don't think I'll have a computer without an SSD ever again, and I would absolutely recommend the Crucial MX300.
