    200-pin SODIMM

A small outline dual inline memory module (SODIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). SODIMMs get their name because they are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a SODIMM are not connected.

200-pin SODIMMs are used to provide DDR and DDR2 SDRAM memory for notebook computers. 200-pin SODIMMs are available in PC2700 DDR SDRAM, PC3200 DDR SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-6400 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-5300 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-4200 SDRAM and DDR2 PC2-3200 SDRAM. To use DDR or DDR2 memory, your system motherboard must have 200-pin SODIMM slots and a DDR- or DDR2-enabled chipset. A DDR or DDR2 SODIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM SODIMM socket. (Information about which memory technology your system uses is included in the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool.)

The number of black components on a 200-pin SODIMM can vary, but it always has 100 pins on the front and 100 pins on the back, for a total of 200. 200-pin SODIMMs are approximately 2.625 inches long and 1.25 inches high, though the heights can vary. Like 144-pin SODIMMs, 200-pin SODIMMs have one small notch within the row of pins; however, the notch on the 200-pin SODIMMs is closer to the left side of the module.

    • Q:

I have an Averatec 6200 with 512 MB, running XP SP2.
I do not see 2 memory slots, only 1. My system seems to be like the Dell in your video, only 1 slot. Is my only option to replace the 512 MB with 1 GB module, or am I missing seeing the other slot?
In other words, I cannot install 2 1GB modules?
Thanks for your assistance in advance.

It is likely this system will have a second memory slot under the keyboard. Please consult your user manual for the steps to take to access this.

Yes these are both the same parts. CT439228 is a system specific part and is linked directly to the Toshiba A80. What is actually sent is CT12864X335 which is the Crucial part number.

Can I add the 1 GB module while retaining one of the present original factory installed modules (512KB) for a total if 1.5 GB?

        A:

Yes, you can certainly use a 1GB module alongside an existing 512MB module. However please ensure the biggest memory module is inserted first as that slot is addressed first by the CPU.

What is the difference between Part Number: CT435917 and Part Number: CT12864X335, they appear to be the same?

        A:

1GB DDR only come in 16 chip versions so don’t have any density issues. 512MB modules can come in 8 or 16 but it’s very rare that there is a density issue with them. The 4500 can take a max of 1GB over two slots and the 4500s can take a maximum of 2GB over two slots.

When adding RAM, am I adding to my existing RAM or re-placing. I have 2GB and need more. In the video, it looks like the RAM is being re-placed, not added to. Please educate me.

2GB is the maximum amount of RAM this system is able to support. As a result you wouldn't be able to upgrade the system further.

        A:

If you use the Crucial utility to check your RAM, you can see your options, that is, whether to add if you have open slots, or replace if you don't. Even if you have a slot open, you can probably replace what you do have with more without spending a lot.
