A small outline dual inline memory module (SODIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). SODIMMs get their name because they are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a SODIMM are not connected.
200-pin SODIMMs are used to provide DDR and DDR2 SDRAM memory for notebook computers. To use DDR or DDR2 memory, your system motherboard must have 200-pin SODIMM slots and a DDR- or DDR2-enabled chipset. A DDR or DDR2 SODIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM SODIMM socket. (Information about which memory technology your system uses is included in the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool.)
The number of black components on a 200-pin SODIMM can vary, but it always has 100 pins on the front and 100 pins on the back, for a total of 200. 200-pin SODIMMs are approximately 2.625 inches long and 1.25 inches high, though the heights can vary. Like 144-pin SODIMMs, 200-pin SODIMMs have one small notch within the row of pins; however, the notch on the 200-pin SODIMMs is closer to the left side of the module.

I ordered four, two for my Win XP Home, Dell Vostro 1000 and two for my wife's Vista Home Premium, Dell Inspiron E1505 (max memory is 2G for both). We're both heavy web surfers but also use apps for several other things too. We both saw a significant improvement in booting, when launching apps, cut & paste, etc., etc. With all other things being equal, increasing memory is a cheap(er) way of upgrading any system that can accommodate additional memory.[...]. Crucial is competitively priced among internet sales and about half-priced among local retailers. While I try to buy locally, no one had these modules in stock but could order them [...]. Why wait; go Crucial. Why four and not five stars? Because this was my first purchase from Crucial and I've only had the modules installed for about one month. Otherwise, time will tell; but I'm impressed so far.

Ordered this for my Toshiba Satellite. Went through the "identify your computer" option and gave the appropriate model. Ordered what it told me to. I've doubled my capacity (1G to 2G) but I must have had faster, lesser RAM before because I notice video and multiple applications seems to bog down worse than before. Only benefit seems to be at start-up.
It is on me to get the speed right--don't deny that. But I wish I had paid closer attention to speed instead of focusing on capacity.
P.S. I tried to give it zero stars, but it made me put at least one....
