A dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The gold pins on the bottom of the DIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a DIMM are not connected to each other.
184-pin DIMMs are used to provide DDR SDRAM memory for desktop computers. Standard 184-pin DIMMs are available in PC1600 DDR SDRAM, PC2100 DDR SDRAM, PC2700 DDR SDRAM, and PC3200 DDR SDRAM.
To use DDR memory, your system motherboard must have 184-pin DIMM slots and a DDR-enabled chipset. A DDR SDRAM DIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM DIMM socket. (Information about which memory technology your system uses is included in the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool.)
The number of black components on a 184-pin DIMM can vary, but it always has 92 pins on the front and 92 pins on the back, for a total of 184. 184-pin DIMMs are approximately 5.25 inches long and 1.25 inches high, though the heights can vary. While 184-pin DIMMs and 168-pin DIMMs are approximately the same size, 184-pin DIMMs have only one notch within the row of pins.

I had been having problems with my newer PC crashing and not coming back, so I thought instead of spending money on another new computer, I'd try upgrading an old one that had been setting around. The problem with the old one was it only had 90mb RAM. I found a link to Crucial on Microsoft's site that explained how to add memory. Crucial scanned my computer to tell me exactly what kind of memory I needed. Adding 512mb was sooo easy. For a pittance I upgraded this computer to do almost everything I need that a new one does. Thanks!

Comments about Crucial 512MB 184-pin DIMM DDR PC2700:
My new RAM was easy to install. Sure, there are no instructions in the package, but I read the instructions online before the installation, and everything went fine.
I can tell my computer is faster than before, and I'm very happy with my purchase.

Comments about Crucial 512MB 184-pin DIMM DDR PC2700:
My Dell Dimension 4400 came with only 256MB of memory and seemed to be getting slower and slower. After installing my new 512MB memory board along side of the original 256MB board the increase in speed was amazing. If I would have known I had two memory board slots I would have installed two of the 512MB's at the same time. I did order another 512MB and now have the two 512's for even faster browsing. Best upgrade I could do for my old computer. crucial.com's Scanner worked great for getting my computer's information.

I replaced the failing memory in an older PC that was built by an enthusiast several years ago with 2 of these modules. They are reliable and performing as expected. Great value for the price.

Comments about Crucial 512MB 184-pin DIMM DDR PC2700:
I used the Crucial System Scanner Tool to determine type of RAM a friend's desktop would require, and how much it could take, for an upgrade. Based on this very easy tool to use, we ordered this memory, and it made a significant difference in speed after installation. It also allows him to have more programs open at one time, without bogging down the system.
