204-pin SODIMM

DDR3 204-pin SODIMM: Approximately 2.66 in. by 1.18 in. (66 mm by 30 mm)

In short, 204-pin small outline dual inline memory modules (SODIMMs) are the form factor used to provide DDR3 memory modules for notebook computers and other small form factor computing platforms. 204-pin SODIMMs are currently available in PC3-8500 (DDR3 1066MHz) and PC3-10600 (DDR3 1333MHz) speeds.

To use DDR3 memory, your system must have both a 204-pin SODIMM slot and a chipset that supports DDR3 memory. A DDR3 SODIMM will not fit into DDR2 or DDR memory sockets. (Information about which memory technology your system uses is included in the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool.)

SODIMMs are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs, and the 204-pin SODIMM PCBs are always ~2.6 inches long and are usually around 1.18 inches high (though the heights can vary slightly). They consist of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The number of memory components on a 204-pin SODIMM’s printed circuit board (PCB) can vary, but the PCB will always have 102 pins on the front and the back both, for a total of 204 pins. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide the connection between the memory module and the memory socket.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A665-S6094 Laptop. The laptop has the latest firmware revisions. Toshiba indicates the device is capable of addressing 8GB of RAM (if running Windows 7 Professional). I use this laptop for Digital Audio Production and was running out of memory on some projects. Laptop will NOT boot with Crucial memory only installed. It will NOT boot with either new module alone, but will boot with a single module from original vendor. Can boot laptop with combination of Crucial and old modules. This gives me a total of 6GB of RAM. Old module must be in Bank 0 and Crucial in Bank 1 (Reverse will NOT boot). Have called technical support several times. Techs were polite and helpful, but we were NOT able to resolve the issue. Crucial offered to refund my money, but saw in other forums that this is a motherboard issue and only certain vendors DRAM allow all 8GB to be accessed. Suspect it may be a timing issue as these modules are faster than original modules. BIOS shows memory statistics, but does NOT allow manual configuration of any kind. I will only use Crucial memory in my devices, so I'm living with my purchase since the 2GB extra are allowing my current projects to run. I'm keep my extra modules for spares for use in the future. I have used Crucial on all of the PCs projects in the past and will only use Crucial memory. Again this is a Motherboard issue and NOT a crucial problem. Would like to see website updated to indicate the incompatibility above, so others aren't affected or disappointed in the future.

Your website scanned my computer and gave me suggestions for memory that would work with my computer. Well you suggested 4 gig x2. But come to find out, YOUR WRONG.. it wont work with a 32 bit win-7 system. The 32 bit will only see 4 gig's of memory. So the upgrade I bought from your suggestions is useless! Please don't give people suggestion's that wont even work! I wasted 85$ for nothing!!!!

Installed this in an underpowered laptop running Windows 7 64-bit with only 2GB RAM. Significant performance boost was apparent on first boot after the install. Able to run multiple apps now efficiently as well as stream HD video content.

I am anticipating the windows 10 upgrade and and needed to update my Qosimo core 7 to make it a little hotter. The ram seletion chart is excellent and the memory upgrade fit the memory slots and ran perfectly. The installation instructions provided by Crucial are very generic. Since i am a little apprehensive about working on a laptop i had to get a a online manual from Toshbia. The whole installation process took about 15 minutes and went without a hitch.

I upgraded my laptop's memory with the manufacturer's recommended memory modules purchased from Crucial. My computer would not boot after installation. Crucial's tech representative walked me through five or six steps to get the laptop to boot. Nothing worked. The rep then went and discussed the situation with his colleagues. They found a solution together requiring different memory modules. The rep told me not to pay attention to the Apple memory sticker on the new memory. I returned the memory postage-paid and received the new memory in two days. The new memory was less expensive and worked perfectly. Crucial has never failed to provide a working solution for me.
