    DDR3 240-pin DIMM

Crucial 240-pin DIMMs are used in DDR3 memory for desktop computers. DDR3 is the latest generation of memory with an improved architecture that allows it to transmit data more quickly.

A dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The gold pins on the bottom of the DIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a DIMM are not connected to each other.

Each 240-pin DIMM provides a 64-bit data path (72-bit for ECC or registered or Fully Buffered modules). (The Ballistix™ and Ballistix Tracer™ high-performance memory do not come in 72-bit or registered modules.) Additional speeds will be added as the technology becomes available.

To use DDR3 memory, your system motherboard must have 240-pin DIMM slots and a DDR3-enabled chipset. This is because a DDR3 SDRAM DIMM will not fit into a standard DDR2 DIMM socket or a DDR DIMM socket.

The number of black components on a 240-pin DIMM can vary, but it always has 120 pins on the front and 120 pins on the back, for a total of 240. 240-pin DIMMs are approximately 5.25 inches long and 1.18 inches high, though the heights can vary. While 240-pin DDR3 DIMMS, 240-pin DDR2 DIMMs, 184-pin DDR DIMMs, and 168-pin DIMMs are approximately the same size, 240-pin DIMMs and 184-pin DIMMs have only one notch within the row of pins.

Crucial has been around for over a decease and has always sold reliable, quality memory (RAM) in my experiences. I use their memory for gaming, casual computing, web browsing, and some work and professional reasons such as scanning and editing documents and pictures, word processing, and for entertainment such as watching movies and videos, reading e-books and listening to music and e-books, and etc. What's great about Crucial memory is that I have never had a single problem with failed or defective memory sticks, they offer a variety of choices, and even offer every visitor to their website the easy ability to select what make and model of computer they use, and select the best memory for that specific hardware. So no mistakes buying the wrong memory for your PC! I love Crucial because of their quality products and competitive prices!

      Comments about Crucial 2GB 240-pin DIMM DDR3 PC3-12800:

I don't us my PC for gaming but for office applications, email and multi media, so when I had to replace my last machine I went cheap with an HP Slimline. Problem is, the cheaper the system the quicker it becomes outdated. The apps I was running overloaded the RAM and caused the computer to freeze every 15 minutes or so until it could sort itself out. Ordering paired RAM cards from Crucial provided a simple and inexpensive solution. It was easy enough to replace the cards myself and completely solved the problem.

        Comments about Crucial 2GB 240-pin DIMM DDR3 PC3-12800:

I needed to add some additional memory to accommodate the upgrade to Windows 10. The Crucial software figured out what I had and what was compatible with my system for the upgrade. The additional memory arrived quickly and after watching the installation videos I was able to easily install it. Everything went great, no hitches, hiccups, or problems.

This RAM kit was a perfect match for my system. It does exactly what it is meant to. Installation was easy, and the upgraded performance was instantly noticeable. I was very impressed by the Crucial System Scanner, which analyzed my computer and found just what I needed to upgrade. I plan on using this again in the future when further upgrades are needed, and would definitely recommend it to others.

              Comments about Crucial 2GB 240-pin DIMM DDR3 PC3-12800:

When my desktop became unstable and started experiencing sudden un-commanded reboots, I researched online for the most probable causes. After a while, I had it narrowed down to two likely culprits; e.g. heat or RAM. After using some online software to determine that heat probably wasn't the issue, I used the Crucial website to determine the available memory options for me. I bought 2X 2GB DDR3 PC3-12800 modules from crucial.com for a very nice price. When they arrived (in just a couple of days!) I replaced the old modules, turned on the computer and it has been running fine ever since. Thank you, Crucial. My wife is happy again, and so am I!
