†1 GB = 1 billion bytes. Actual usable capacity may vary.

Micron® Quality - As a brand of Micron, one of the largest NAND manufacturers in the world, Crucial SSDs are designed and developed in-house with the latest technology. This means four things: hundreds of SSD qualification tests, over a thousand hours of prerelease validation testing, 1.5 billion dollars invested in R&D, and more than 30 years of industry expertise.

Adaptive Thermal Protection - Greater thermal management enables the Crucial M500 to work with the host computer to dynamically adjust power consumption based on usage demands, which helps address the cooling challenges of ultra-small, thermally constrained systems.

Hardware Data Encryption - The Crucial M500 SSD offers top-level hardware-based encryption, enabling enhanced data security. Our AES 256-bit hardware encryption engine and TCG Opal 2.0 compliant firmware allow the drive to operate at full speed without the performance loss that’s typically found in drives that use software-based encryption technology.

Three Year Limited Warranty - From prerelease validation testing to ensure that our SSDs work with the broadest range of chipsets, motherboards, and operating systems to more than a thousand hours of endurance testing, our drives are tested for reliability from start to finish. We proudly offer a three-year limited warranty and award-winning tech support.

Life long PC owner (45yrs old) that switched to a Mac in 2013. My first Mac entry was a 2010 Macbook Pro. Being an Apple guy (iPhones, iPads, iPods, Apple TV, time capsule) I knew I loved the look, form and function of a Mac but wasn't quite ready to buy a brand new Macbook Pro (cost) so I went with upgrading my ram and jumping on a new SSD.

I am not remotely close to a tech guy, can't tell you how big a gigabyte is or what RAM actually stands for but I was able to install this SSD with ease. I even backed up my old hard drive and cloned it over to this new SSD without a single issue. Something I am very proud of by the way! My computer was already able to handle more apps at the same time when I upgraded my RAM but I still wanted more speed. Being a first year college student, speed is everything to me on a computer, overtime, a second here, a minute there, adds up, and I have improved the overall function of my 2010 MacBook pro with this simple upgrade.

My boot up time, time switching between tasks, and overall use is now faster and I am happy about this SSD upgrade and would do it again if I had to. I wish they were a little cheaper because I would have gotten a bigger one. My original hard drive was bigger than this SSD so I had to reduce the storage of the original to be able to clone it over to this SSD. So, if you are thinking about doing this upgrade I would say do it. I would now put my 2010 Macbook Pro up against any 2014 Macbook Pro and feel confident. By the way, I have 16GB of RAM in it as well, something some other models Mac can't even do ha ha!

Transferred data off of old drive, no problem.
      Installed this drive no problem.
Computer ran like blazes for about two minutes, then went crazy, then stopped.
Took it to professional service, they couldn't retrieve any data, so used my old drive again.
Installed the updated drivers and software from Crucial.
Brought it home and turned it on, it ran great for about twenty seconds then went crazy and then stopped.
I'm now wondering do I take it back to the Tech repair or send it to Crucial, I know that I've wasted weeks on a defective drive that Crucial acknowledged was defective and am still dealing with it.

I used it for 6 months and it failed. Tech guy was really great and actually the sales woman was awesome as well to replace it. It's been a week and the order to replace it is still stuck in "processing". I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't actually double checked it. Now it's been a week, they haven't even sent out the replacement, and have given me no notice that there might be an issue. I needed this hard drive ASAP, didn't know that Crucial's lack of customer service would be the hold up.

easy to install and clone driver because i am familar with ssd and regular hhd drive. knocking one star off on rating because for some they would be lost having to set drive up to clone due to no instruction paper with driver which would be a simple basic page crucial could do for pennies on cost

Crucial has never let me or my cusomers down. No other company makes upgrading your memory easier than Crucial with a scanner that tests and shows you what you have and options for upgrade delivered to your door, THAT WORK! When I needed an SSD drive, this was my first choice for the reasons noted above.

The kit for making the mirror image worked well. Generally the machine performs faster now but occasionally locks up for no apparent reason. The search in the start menu is now super slow. I bought this because I was worried about my platter drive being near the end of it's life. I liked the idea of a drive with no moving parts. However if I had the chance to do it over I would have replaced it with a standard hard drive.
