August of 2013, a friend at church gave me this Compaq Presario 2004 desktop computer. He and his wife have moved to Minnesota and I have lost contact so cannot ask them. It only came with 256 Mb and the other slot is empty. A friend in Austrailia (I am in Atlanta, Georgia USA); also has an XP computer desktop but not the same brand. He shipped me 2 x 1 Gig and 2 x 2 Gig memory cards this past Wednesday. Will take 10-12 days to get to me. Do the memory cards have to be specific for my computer or will others work? Can I only put just 256 Mb more in the other slot? I am 64 (almost 65) and have never been inside a computer tower. A friend in my building will put the memory in for me. I am confused on how much Mb is 1 Gig and how much is 2? Here is the scan results for my computer: Crucial USA - scan results
I am sorry for the issues that you have experienced with your upgrade. What is the make and model of the computer that you were installing the memory in? What is the full part number on the memory module themselves? They should read CT25664AA800.16F,etc. Thank you in advance for this information.
I'm an IT engineer and subscribred to this feed.
In looking up RAM for new laptops I occasionally find model numbers off by a digit or letter.
Many times these minor differences are owing to different HD or SSD, Optical drive, touchscreen, etc.
My question is; if model numbers are not an exact match, can this also mean the RAM is not upgradeable?
Thanks for contacting us today. They usually work together just fine and the higher speed module just down clocks to the 1333mhz. What is the make and model of the computer you will be installing the memory in? I would be happy to check the compatibility for you.
I purchased CT51264BF160BJ new from Amazon few months ago which seemed to have normal package/sticker and runs okay.
However, MemTest86 identifies it as Super Talent CT51264BF160BJ.M8F in the PC (JEDEC SPD 1.0).
Does this make sense - was there some temporary issue in manufacturing week 7 of 2014 where Crucial programmed Super Talent's info (module rev x4444, mfg loc 5)?
My more recent purchase of CT51264BF160BJ from NewEgg shows SPD 1.1 with reasonable Crucial info.
Both SODIMMs have the same number of micron chips but the recent chips are slightly smaller.
