†1 GB = 1 billion bytes. Actual usable capacity may vary.

Micron® Quality - As a brand of Micron, one of the largest NAND manufacturers in the world, Crucial SSDs are designed and developed in-house with the latest technology. This means four things: hundreds of SSD qualification tests, over a thousand hours of prerelease validation testing, 1.5 billion dollars invested in R&D, and more than 30 years of industry expertise.

Adaptive Thermal Protection - Greater thermal management enables the Crucial M500 to work with the host computer to dynamically adjust power consumption based on usage demands, which helps address the cooling challenges of ultra-small, thermally constrained systems.

Hardware Data Encryption - The Crucial M500 SSD offers top-level hardware-based encryption, enabling enhanced data security. Our AES 256-bit hardware encryption engine and TCG Opal 2.0 compliant firmware allow the drive to operate at full speed without the performance loss that's typically found in drives that use software-based encryption technology.

Three Year Limited Warranty - From prerelease validation testing to ensure that our SSDs work with the broadest range of chipsets, motherboards, and operating systems to more than a thousand hours of endurance testing, our drives are tested for reliability from start to finish. We proudly offer a three-year limited warranty and award-winning tech support.

Easy to fit, easy to clone my windows onto it.
The crucial SSD as made my PC mega fast and its a joy to use again.
The only negative was there is no instructions telling you to boot the Acronis CD from DOS.
I sussed it out but others may think the disk is blank.

I installed this into an ageing dell latitude e6400 (core2due) laptop with 4Gb RAM. Put a clean install on windows 7 on and WOW, the speed difference is unbelievable. Start up speed is probably down to 20-30 seconds to desktop, and the applications launch so much faster. Definitely a cost effective way of making an older machine last a few more years!!

I needed to improve my Dell E520 performance, this did the trick. Booting Windows 8.1 is very fast, after the BIOS checks it takes about 5 seconds for the login prompt to appear. That's phenomenal!

Annoyingly Windows 8.1 doesn't have the built-in benchmark test any more so I can't compare the overall performance.

The disk image copy took several attempts because I was copying a 1TB drive with 3 partitions (C D & E) onto a 250GB SDD. Because there's no option just to copy one partition I had to move my data partitions onto other disks first so that the only data was Windows 8.1 operating system (and programs). I finally managed to resize my D and E partitions on the SDD to be much much smaller than the imaging software had created by default and then increased the SDD C partition to around 240GB. Windows 8.1 takes about 90-92GB with my software loaded so there's plenty of room for more software. I still have C D & E partitions but D and E are much smaller than before so my big data resides on a second drive. I will eventually re-install and have a second SDD drive for the data.

Hopefully that all made sense and makes it clear that the cloning software clones all partitions and sizes them *proportionally*. So if you are doing what I did you may have to move things around before cloning the disk.

It took several reboots for my Dell to be truly happy with the SDD. It didn't complain but it seemed to be sorting things out quietly in the background until about the third reboot when it suddenly became a great deal faster.

I notice that disk checks are blisteringly fast, and disk optimisation (the Dell treats SDDs differently when you ask for a defrag/disk optimise) is really really fast. Doing a disk clean-up takes a fraction of the time that it used to!

I mentioned backups being fast in my Pros because I really noticed the speed increase when using SyncToy.

An excellent upgrade to my Dell. The Dell BIOS knows about SDDs, recognised the Crucial drive, and reconfigured the motherboard automatically.

I would very much like a 1TB SDD (in new i7 hardware!) now that I have gained confidence that this technology is reliable (but I back up to other mechanical drives more often now because it's so fast).

Strongly recommend this for the Dell Dimension E520.

For installation I would recommend the crucial installation kit which obviously increases the cost of upgrading. On the other hand it makes it very easy to install and clone your old hard drive without having to reinstall your operating system - especially hand as nowadays computers often seem to be sold without giving you an installation disk.

Used in my laptop to replace, noisy, slow, hot running, battery hogging hard disk drive.
I watch a lot of ice hockey and motorcycle racing on the www. This has almost eliminated download lag, when watching live sports.
The boot up time is really fast now. I bought it at the best, and most trustworthy, deal I could find on the web, or stores. I have no negatives at the moment. I should point out that I only fitted the drive a week ago, but it seems to be brilliant.

Been tracking prices for months, and leapt in when they dropped.

Installed this so, so easily into my MacBook Pro and yes, it is like having a new machine altogether.

From off to login screen in 9 seconds, instant wake from sleep.... and it wasn't horridly slow before!
Apps load in a click, and a very large iPhoto library is open and ready for editing in 4 seconds - before that DID take ages.
