I'm still using an AMD 939 configuration,Xpsp3,and still very happy about it.The only pb was swapping when playing newer games or watching blu-rays.So two (2x1) gigs of this Crucial model, mainly for its excellent compatibility reputation. In my rig for 6 weeks now and zero pbs.I had 1GB (Dual-channel too) before and, except for the two cases I mentioned,I thought everything was behaving as it should be and I was wrong.First thing I noticed is that services that load at boot take more space in the Ram and that the system is more reactive.Slight increase of the Ram bandwidth too.But it's in intensive applications that the 2GB really shine. Many applications will hog much more Ram than expected (Compared to the amount previously used with 1 gig),and the increase in performance in this case becomes tremendous. My point is that I never would've thought that some applications would work better(=much faster) with 2GB when there was already plenty of space available with only 1GB installed !!!
Think (Crucial) Ram before ditching your old system.

Attempting to upgrade my pc chips 848A mother board from 1.5gb to 2.5gb. I thought this 1GB CT12864Z40B stick would be compatible with my existing 3x CT6464Z40 512mb crucial memory sticks but this turned out not to be the case. Although it increased my speed, Mixing the(CT12864Z40B) chip with my existing ones caused timing issues within windows xp and instability that resulted in me twice having to repair windows. However ordered another CT12864Z40B, removed all my 512mb chips, installed the additional CT12864Z40B and all is now well. Dissapointed that I has cost me twice the price to get a half a gig more though. The moral of this story is always install the same type of memory chips together, don't try to mix and match. There are limits to compatability even with Crucial.

Immediately he went to your website, identified the correct memory module, I ordered it and within 24hrs it was in my machine and working fine. First class website, first class service. A tonic indeed!

                      184-pin DIMM

                      184-pin DIMM for DDR memory
Approximately 5.25 in. by 1.25 in. (133.35 mm by 31.75 mm)

A dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The gold pins on the bottom of the DIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a DIMM are not connected to each other.

184-pin DIMMs are used to provide DDR SDRAM memory for desktop computers. Standard 184-pin DIMMs are available in PC1600 DDR SDRAM, PC2100 DDR SDRAM, PC2700 DDR SDRAM, and PC3200 DDR SDRAM.

To use DDR memory, your system motherboard must have 184-pin DIMM slots and a DDR-enabled chipset. A DDR SDRAM DIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM DIMM socket. (Information about which memory technology your system uses is included in the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool.)

The number of black components on a 184-pin DIMM can vary, but it always has 92 pins on the front and 92 pins on the back, for a total of 184. 184-pin DIMMs are approximately 5.25 inches long and 1.25 inches high, though the heights can vary. While 184-pin DIMMs and 168-pin DIMMs are approximately the same size, 184-pin DIMMs have only one notch within the row of pins.
