My system was quite adequate when first bought in 2007, but Vista and my increasing interest in video making were taxing the hard drive and the poor thing was spinning almost constantly. More RAM was obviously needed but I was hesitant as I had never opened a pc tower before and in the past any time my laptop or pc required an upgrade, it would be taken to a service centre.

Advisors from a very well-respected forum recommended Crucial and I must say that the scan is absolutely amazing and a major reason why I was able to do the memory upgrade myself. With the correct components identified and different branded options presented, placing my order was easy. The 2 x 1GB kit I purchased arrived well packaged and complete with installation instructions. The memory was recognized instantly and I can see a huge improvement in how my computer functions. Even my sub-standard internet connection is running faster. An enquiry I made by e-mail with regard to my account was answered within 24 hours, courteously and efficiently. My Crucial experience has been positive in every respect.

Ordered an extra 2 x 1GB to add to the 2 x 512 already in my Dell as recommended by the scan. However, I kept getting a blue screen. Tried lots of things, even reinstalling operating system. Took the extra 2 GB out and no probs. Took the 2 x 512 out and replaced with the 2GB and again no probs. Seems there is a compatability issue witht the crucial RAM and the Dell RAM. I am now running on the 2 x 1GB and the 2 x 512 are of no use to me. The Crucial scan recommended this yet they were not compatable with my existing RAM. Disappointed. On the plus side, easy to install [...]

The tool to find the RAM is incredibly easy to use, the video with directions on how to mount it is very clear.

The performance of my PC have improved a lot and it was nice, following the indications of the site, to be able to do just a job that i thought was the prerogative of a specialized technician.

Really easy to install, PC handbook suggested removal of hard disc .......but easy to fit 4 modules by just gently sliding disc back to provide sufficient space......fitted in less than 10 minutes......excellent performance now......was previously considering replacing my PC......guess I have added a few more years to its life!

Being a non-tech person I had struggled with a rather old and annoyingly slow PC for years, not knowing that I could improve things by doubling the RAM. Once I got the idea I soon came across Crucial and was impressed by the detailed and easily understood information on the site, followed by clear advice on my individual RAM upgrade needs (unlike another well-known online retailer, who gave me erroneous advice). Installation of the 1GB module, giving 2GB total, though still small by today's standards, has hugely improved the speed and versatility of my PC, thus significantly reducing demands on my time and blood pressure!

                      240-pin DIMM

                      240-pin DIMM for DDR2 memory
Approximately 5.25 in. by 1.18 in. (133.35 mm by 30 mm)

A dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The gold pins on the bottom of the DIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a DIMM are not connected to each other.

240-pin DIMMs are used to provide DDR2 SDRAM memory for desktop computers. DDR2 is a leading-edge generation of memory with an improved architecture that allows it to transmit data very fast.

Each 240-pin DIMM provides a 64-bit data path (72-bit for ECC or registered or Fully Buffered modules). (The Ballistix™ and Ballistix Tracer™ high-performance memory do not come in 72-bit or registered modules.)

                      Standard DDR2 240-pin DIMMs are available in DDR2 PC2-3200 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-4200 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-5300 SDRAM, and PC2-6400 SDRAM.

To use DDR2 memory, your system motherboard must have 240-pin DIMM slots and a DDR2-enabled chipset. A DDR2 SDRAM DIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM DIMM socket or a DDR DIMM socket.

The number of black components on a 240-pin DIMM can vary, but it always has 120 pins on the front and 120 pins on the back, for a total of 240. 240-pin DIMMs are approximately 5.25 inches long and 1.18 inches high, though the heights can vary. While 240-pin DDR2 DIMMs, 184-pin DDR DIMMs, and 168-pin DIMMs are approximately the same size, 240-pin DIMMs and 184-pin DIMMs have only one notch within the row of pins. The notch in a 240-pin DDR2 DIMM is closer toward the center of the module.

Ballistix and Ballistix Tracer 240-pin DIMMs

                      Our high-performance Ballistix 240-pin DIMMs come in DDR2 PC2-5300 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-6400 SDRAM, and DDR2 PC2-8000 SDRAM. The Ballistix Tracer illuminated, activity-indicating high-performance 240-pin DIMM comes in SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-6400 SDRAM, and DDR2 PC2-8000 SDRAM

For more information about the Ballistix memory line, please visit the Ballistix section of our Web site.
