Bought to upgrade a friends aging PC running XP with 512MB .. this upgrade means the pagefile is now pretty much redundant.

Comments about Crucial 1GB Upgrade for a Dell Dimension 4550 (533MHz FSB) System:

My Dell 4550 at nearly 10years old was struggling. It had been upgraded in 2006 from 512MB to 1GB of memory (the max memory according to the Dell Manual). However the Crucial scan software showed it was possible to upgrade the Dell 4550 from 1GB to 2GB of memory. [...]The machine was erratic on first load, because I hadn't seated the memory cards correctly. Second attempt after reading the instructions 'properly' all up and running and showing a marked improvement in performance.A thoroughly worthwhile upgrade.

My machine was taking ever longer to boot or submit background print jobs. I installed two new modules to provide maximum ram. After a problem free installation performance is much improved. To date no performance problems. (two weeks after install.)

[...]PC up & running on re-start, no issues & 500% faster! Strongly suggest research beforehand as I found out I could upgrade from 512KB to 2Gb in one when my Dell PC manual implied it could only upgrade to 1Gb. Worth the checking!
