What is an AGP slot? How do I tell if I have one?

An AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) slot is a connector on your motherboard specifically designed for use with a video card. The AGP slot provides the fast connection and bandwidth that your video card needs to communicate with your processor and your display.

If your system is less than five years old and shipped with a video card installed, your system will most likely have an AGP slot. If your system came equipped with "on-board graphics" you may or may not have an AGP slot. To find out for sure, check the documentation that came with your system. If you can't find the answer there, open your case and look at your motherboard. In most tower systems, the AGP slot is the top-most connector that has direct accessiblity to the rear of the case. And, in almost all cases, AGP slots are brown. They are also 2.8" in length.
