PCW's 2007 Readers Awards for Excellence "With huge files and hungry apps, high-performance memory is vital to system performance, especially if you're a keen overclocker. From standard memory to the Ballistix memory often used in PCW's Hands On Performance column, Crucial offers a vast range. Readers voted for the company by a margin of almost 2:1 over the nearest competitor in this category. Price and customer service were important factors in its success, as too was Crucial's website memory selector, mentioned by many readers, which makes it easy to find the memory chips to match any system."

"Crucial have always had a reputation for memory that works straight out of the box and the Ballistix PC3-12800 kit is certainly no different. Unlike a few of the DDR3 kits we've tested recently the Ballistix was 100% stable at stock speeds without the need to tweak any memory sub-timings or voltages, and I'm pleased to say that we managed to get through the whole review without pulling our hair out once!" "If you're serious about overclocking your PC and you want some memory that's up to the job, this kit from Crucial is ideal. We had it running stably at 55 per cent faster than its rated speed."

Recommended Award
"It would have been nice to see the memory being offered at CL7-7-7, as it can easily manage the advertised speed at these settings. Nonetheless this kit is certainly worthy of the Ballistix brand name and performs extremely well, by almost managing 2 GHz at CL8 and 2.0V. It seems like the memory follows the same theme as the package — understatement. It may not look out of the ordinary but works extremely well once installed in a system." Full review

Premium Grade Award
"For the really special products that we'd sell our bodies to science to own, there's the Premium Grade award ... The Ballistix BL2KIT12864AA804 supports EPP (SLI memory) in compatible motherboards, and we succeeded in manually overclocking it to an amazing 1.13GHz by increasing its voltage to 2.4V. This means that it's capable of running faster than PC2-8500 speeds, which is equivalent to 1,066MHz. By dropping the latency timings to 6-6-6-18, we managed to overclock the DIMMs stably up to 1.17GHZ." Full review
