Important notice to Windows XP users: Have you installed Service Pack 2 for Windows XP? If so, you will need to take an additional step to run the System Scanner. At the top of this page, look for a yellow information bar showing a message about the Crucial System Scanner. You will need to click on that page and choose "Install ActiveX Control" to continue, or you may use our downloadable System Scanner.

If you continue to have problems, or if you are not running Windows XP with Service Pack 2, try these troubleshooting steps:

• Did you answer "no" to the System Scanner security certificate?
• The Crucial System Scanner uses an ActiveX control to scan your computer's hardware. Before running, you should see a security certificate asking your permission to run the Crucial System Scanner. Click "yes" to all to run the System Scanner.
• Have you changed the security settings in Internet Explorer?
  One of Internet Explorer's advanced security settings conflicts with the Crucial System Scanner. If you have made a change to the default security settings in Internet Explorer, the Crucial System Scanner may not work.

Browser Incompatibility

The online Crucial System Scanner requires Internet Explorer browser and the use of ActiveX® technology to scan your system. If you use a different Web browser, such as Opera™ or Mozilla's Firefox™, please use our 112KB downloadable System Scanner instead.

Running the Downloadable System Scanner

2. Use the prompt to save the file to your Windows desktop or another folder on your PC.
3. When the download is complete, double-click on CrucialScan.exe to run the program. You will be prompted to continue with running the application (see below).
