In April of 2009 my brother-in-law built a new computer system for me. This system had 2X1GB sticks of RAM manufactured by a Crucial rival.

For a year I was plagued by Blue Screens of Death which would wreak havoc with my system.

First I would get the BSOD and reboot. The system would work for a day or two and then another BSOD would come up. This would continue with BSOD's occurring more frequently until eventually my computer would refuse to boot up at all. It was DEAD. MUERTO. MORT. VERSTORBENE. I would then have to reformat my hard drive and reload Windows which everyone knows is a huge pain in the tookas, even if you have faithfully backed up your system regularly.

I'd be good for a month or so and then the cycle would repeat.
BSOD, REBOOT, BSOD, REBOOT, BSOD, DEATH, REFORMAT, RELOAD, Rinse and repeat :(
This cycle of deep annoyance occurred FOUR TIMES.

I tried several different kinds of fixes such as unplugging different peripheral devices, replacing peripherals, updating drivers, etc, but eventually the BSOD would start happening again.

Finally, in late April, 2010, after I started getting the BSOD again I decided to just replace my original RAM with 1X2GB stick of Crucial RAM.

Drum roll...... NO MORE BLUE SCREENS OF DEATH! It was that simple:
1. I had the Blue Screen of Death
2. I replaced the old RAM with Crucial RAM
3. VOILA! System Normal. No more BSOD.

It was amazing, because the cycle of BSOD's had definitely begun again but the cycle was destroyed by my Crucial RAM!

Thank You Crucial, your RAM was CRUCIAL to ending my run of BSODs! Nothing but Crucial RAM in the future for me!

I upgraded my 2GB memory on the spare computer to the maximum of 4GB (allowed by the motherboard) when I installed Windows 7. The install went fine and Windows recognized the increased memory right away. The Windows 7 assessment gave me a 5.5 score for the memory, about what I expected. Ordering was simple and service was fast. I also installed Crucial memory on my main computer without any problems.

      Comments about Crucial 2GB 240-pin DIMM DDR2 PC2-6400:

After reviewing the scan results and looking at the choices I thought that the RAM would be shipped with instructions. I have installed new/additional RAM quite some many years ago and I was supprised that RAM is RAM today or ten years ago. I also came away from the transaction with the idea that the product would be delivered sooner than 7 days. Hmmmmm, guess I must be having senior hours or days rather than just momenents. Glad I did not need it that soon.

Anyway the product was as described and my home videos load faster and allow more editing so I am satisfied.

                      Comments about Crucial 2GB 240-pin DIMM DDR2 PC2-6400:

I really did like the product itself- but unfortunately there was one problem. I used the Crucial.com compatibility tool to scan my motherboard and advise which RAM was compatible with it- and therefore which sticks I should buy. I bought the recommended sticks for my motherboard (An ASUS P5QL-EM, 64 bit system which SHOULD normally be able to handle 8 gigs.) When I installed it, it wouldn't work. Tried again, and nothing. I called customer support, and after a few minutes of research, the Crucial technician discovered that my motherboard had a quirky limitation on it and it could only take 4 gigs. The Crucial.com analyzer did not pick up on this. That's my only problem- apparently it is not infallable, and you should verify its recommendations from another source- or call support and double check with an actual person. They handled the return professionally and courteously.

                          240-pin DIMM

                          240-pin DIMM for DDR2 memory
Approximately 5.25 in. by 1.18 in. (133.35 mm by 30 mm)

A dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The gold pins on the bottom of the DIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a DIMM are not connected to each other.

240-pin DIMMs are used to provide DDR2 SDRAM memory for desktop computers. DDR2 is a leading-edge generation of memory with an improved architecture that allows it to transmit data very fast.

Each 240-pin DIMM provides a 64-bit data path (72-bit for ECC or registered or Fully Buffered modules). (The Ballistix™ and Ballistix Tracer™ high-performance memory do not come in 72-bit or registered modules.)

                          Standard DDR2 240-pin DIMMs are available in DDR2 PC2-3200 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-4200 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-5300 SDRAM, and PC2-6400 SDRAM.

To use DDR2 memory, your system motherboard must have 240-pin DIMM slots and a DDR2-enabled chipset. A DDR2 SDRAM DIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM DIMM socket or a DDR DIMM socket.

The number of black components on a 240-pin DIMM can vary, but it always has 120 pins on the front and 120 pins on the back, for a total of 240. 240-pin DIMMs are approximately 5.25 inches long and 1.18 inches high, though the heights can vary. While 240-pin DDR2 DIMMs, 184-pin DDR DIMMs, and 168-pin DIMMs are approximately the same size, 240-pin DIMMs and 184-pin DIMMs have only one notch within the row of pins. The notch in a 240-pin DDR2 DIMM is closer toward the center of the module.

Ballistix and Ballistix Tracer 240-pin DIMMs

                          Our high-performance Ballistix 240-pin DIMMs come in DDR2 PC2-5300 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-6400 SDRAM, and DDR2 PC2-8000 SDRAM. The Ballistix Tracer illuminated, activity-indicating high-performance 240-pin DIMM comes in SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-6400 SDRAM, and DDR2 PC2-8000 SDRAM
