    I was about ready to ditch my 6 year old Inspiron 5150 and purchase a new laptop but my budget is tight at the moment and after doing a little research, I found that upgrading the memory on my current laptop my serve my purposes well. Before purchasing the 1 GB memory upgrade, the computer was EXTREMELY sluggish, often freezing, sometimes it wouldn't even load. I would attempt to open programs multiple times before it would actually happen sometimes an hour or so later. Brutal! And then forget loading pages on the internet...
    I received the memory yesterday and installed last night. It took me literally 5 minutes to install and I have absolutely no computer hardware experience. Very easy to follow directions. As soon as I booted my computer back up after installing the memory, there was an instant difference. The computer honestly runs like it's brand new. I can hardly believe it. Applications load within seconds and so do websites. It's the best investment I've ever made and it saved me so much money over buying brand new. I would suggest this to anyone who has a bogged down system and is fed up with waiting for things to load. I was a skeptic before, but it's been proven to me that adding memory will absolutely solve the problem.

    WARNING!!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!!

    When your Windows XP computer begins to get what are called "blue screens errors" FIRST THING TO CHECK OUT SHOULD BE THE MEMORY MODULE(S)!

    i fought the problem for two weeks, and almost gave up a couple of times, and then finally i came across an article that clearly stated the "blue screen errors" were more than likely caused by a BAD MEMORY MODULE!!!

    i simply removed the new memory module i had purchased from crucial and replaced it with the one i had been previously using, and lo and behold my computer worked fine once again.

    Don't want anyone to have to go thru the pain i endured trying to fix the problem.......

    Not saying that all "blue screen errors" are caused by a bad memory module but please check out your memory module(s) first if you can.

    It's the weekend now, but i believe that when i call crucial monday they will replace this defective module with a new, and hopefully longer lasting, one.......

    Just felt i should share my experience for the benefit of others who might also experience "blue screen errors" on a Windows XP computer.

                    I installed this memory into an old Fujitsu Lifebook S6231 that had only 512MB. Windows XP was dog slow on this machine, and the hard drive would thrash with every operation. The upgrade to 2GB works great, but I'm a little disappointed in the speed improvement. It doesn't thrash any more, but only a few things are significantly faster. The rest is about the same. I'm not sure it was worth the extra $45 to upgrade to 2GB instead of 1GB. At the very least, I hope the reduce wear on the hard drive will make up for it.

                        The Crucial memory module I originally had became faulty after several years, giving my Windows laptop repeated blue screens of death with memory related problems. Reseating didn't help, blowing any dust away with compressed air didn't help.

                        The warranty replacement seems to have made the problems go away.

                                A small outline dual inline memory module (SODIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). SODIMMs get their name because they are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a SODIMM are not connected.

                                200-pin SODIMMs are used to provide DDR and DDR2 SDRAM memory for notebook computers. 200-pin SODIMMs are available in PC2700 DDR SDRAM, PC3200 DDR SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-6400 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-5300 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-4200 SDRAM and DDR2 PC2-3200 SDRAM. To use DDR or DDR2 memory, your system motherboard must have 200-pin SODIMM slots and a DDR- or DDR2-enabled chipset. A DDR or DDR2 SODIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM SODIMM socket.                                 The number of black components on a 200-pin SODIMM can vary, but it always has 100 pins on the front and 100 pins on the back, for a total of 200. 200-pin SODIMMs are approximately 2.625 inches long and 1.25 inches high, though the heights can vary. Like 144-pin SODIMMs, 200-pin SODIMMs have one small notch within the row of pins; however, the notch on the 200-pin SODIMMs is closer to the left side of the module.
