†1 GB = 1 billion bytes. Actual usable capacity may vary.

Micron® Quality - As a brand of Micron, one of the largest NAND manufacturers in the world, Crucial SSDs are designed and developed in-house with the latest technology. This means four things: hundreds of SSD qualification tests, over a thousand hours of prerelease validation testing, 1.5 billion dollars invested in R&D, and more than 30 years of industry expertise.

Adaptive Thermal Protection - Greater thermal management enables the Crucial M500 to work with the host computer to dynamically adjust power consumption based on usage demands, which helps address the cooling challenges of ultra-small, thermally constrained systems.

Hardware Data Encryption - The Crucial M500 SSD offers top-level hardware-based encryption, enabling enhanced data security. Our AES 256-bit hardware encryption engine and TCG Opal 2.0 compliant firmware allow the drive to operate at full speed without the performance loss that's typically found in drives that use software-based encryption technology.

Three Year Limited Warranty - From prerelease validation testing to ensure that our SSDs work with the broadest range of chipsets, motherboards, and operating systems to more than a thousand hours of endurance testing, our drives are tested for reliability from start to finish. We proudly offer a three-year limited warranty and award-winning tech support.

I use this drive to store my files on. When I started my computer with my old 740 meg drive, I at least had time to go get my coffee and make breakfast. With this new drive in my computer, Windows 95 boots up so fast that I bearly have time to go downstairs and make my coffee an get back again. It's just too fast. I'm missing my breakfast these days now because of this inconvenience.

Screaming fast speed. My Core i7 gets Windows 7 to the login screen before my external monitors have had a chance to wake with video signal.
VMWare virtual machines boot in a tiny fraction of the time they did with a conventional drive.
The system tray fills up in just a few seconds. This drive is a monster!

I plan on bringing back my large music library, extended photo library plus some video and storing it on this drive. It replaced my primary hard drive on an HP DV7 laptop. This means fewer external drive attachments reducing overall power consumption.

After seeing this SSD advertised at a very reasonable price for the type of drive, I replaced a failed hard drive on an older 13" Macbook with Intel processor. The drive was replaced in just a few minutes and a clean install of OS 10 Snow Leopard was performed. The user files were then restored from backup. The drive has performed flawlessly and is unbelievably fast compared to the original 120 Gb 5000 RPM HDD. These drives are unquestionably more expensive than a conventional HDD, even one running at 7200 RPM, but the improvement in performance makes them well worth the investment. I've since replaced a fully functional 500 Gb HDD with the 960 Gb SSD. In my MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10 Lion, the improvement in performance is noticable, albeit somewhat less prononced compared to the performance gain in the aforementioned older MacBook. To date, I haven't had one crash or evidence of failure or incompatability. I'm very pleased with the overall performance. I'd likely be just as happy with a larger conventional HDD or a hybrid drive, but I believe the lack of moving parts makes the longevity of this SSD drive more reliable over time (I hope). I look forward to a long productive relationship with my new SSD.

        A Huge Performance Leap

I have a late-2011 MacBook Pro. I decided to take the plunge on the SSD after I purchased a new MacBook Air with an SSD and found myself never using the old model because it was like molasses compared to the Air. The downside to the Air is that the largest SSD that Apple currently offers is 500GB but I need at least 1TB. I decided to upgrade my Pro after delaying the purchase for months due to the high cost of the SSD. Once purchased and installed I can definitely say that it is worth it. It boots in 1/4 of the time and everything is done much quicker. I didn't time anything or video the difference but I can tell you it's night and day. It is like a new computer. I will never buy an old style HD again.

Was using a 240GB SSD but wanted more space. I had considered moving to a hybrid drive but I found this drive and the price was just low enough to make me go for it. Hybrids are much lower in price but I wanted to carry around my laptop while it was running and not worry about causing a crash.

Installed easy and used Paragon disk manager to clone. Had no problem with the transfer and system came right up. Boot times are nice and fast performance is on par with other SSD drives I have used before. Get this drive and you will not be disappointed.

I got this large SSD for a very niche reason - to store and stream VSTs I use for music composition. (VSTs are essentially large volumes of recorded sounds used to playback notes to sound like various intstruments. Quality ones can be GBs in size just in memory!) Not only can it buffer into memory quickly, but it's fast enough to stream these right from the drive - saving me 30 minutes to an hour daily from waiting for my old mechanical harddrive to do the same.

The price excellent for the size. I haven't hesitated to put any data on it. It seems stable so far, and a 15 second from power-on to firefox is a welcome bonus as well.
