204-pin SODIMM

204-pin SODIMM
DDR3 204-pin SODIMM: Approximately 2.66 in. by 1.18 in. (66 mm by 30 mm)

In short, 204-pin small outline dual inline memory modules (SODIMMs) are the form factor used to provide DDR3 memory modules for notebook computers and other small form factor computing platforms. 204-pin SODIMMs are currently available in PC3-8500 (DDR3 1066MHz) and PC3-10600 (DDR3 1333MHz) speeds.

To use DDR3 memory, your system must have both a 204-pin SODIMM slot and a chipset that supports DDR3 memory. A DDR3 SODIMM will not fit into DDR2 or DDR memory sockets. (Information about which memory technology your system uses is included in the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool.)

SODIMMs are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs, and the 204-pin SODIMM PCBs are always ~2.6 inches long and are usually around 1.18 inches high (though the heights can vary slightly). They consist of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The number of memory components on a 204-pin SODIMM's printed circuit board (PCB) can vary, but the PCB will always have 102 pins on the front and the back both, for a total of 204 pins. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide the connection between the memory module and the memory socket.

      Comments about Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) 204-pin SODIMM DDR3 PC3-10600:

Needed more memory to handle CAD programs demanding better performance in terms of speed and capacity. More memory reduces page swapping and faster processing. Purchasing guidance was helpful with basic memory scan to determine memory type and capacity plus expansion suggestions. Efficient ordering and quick delivery. Good product description and technical support on line. Easy plug in and run. No problems with first time success.

      Comments about Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) 204-pin SODIMM DDR3 PC3-10600:

I received a faulty stick. I tried to rebuild my system via the recovery partition. The computer returned an error in the process and my disk image was subsequently corrupted. I lost all functionality in my PC during the middle of a college semester where I was taking two programming courses. I did not think it was the RAM until after some extensive testing, and when I contacted customer support, crucial was not very amenable to my situation stating that I would either have to wait for the part or incur a temporary charge. They also wanted me to pay for return shipping. I conveyed my disdain to the representative and they waved the shipping costs.

Used this to upgrade the RAM in Toshiba Satellite A665-s6070. Initially the RAM wouldn't work, contacted Crucial support, and they suggested I update my BIOS. Once my BIOS was updated, the RAM worked. My computer is much faster now. Very satisfied.

Easy to install and great performance for a late 2011 13" macbook pro. I can only imagine how much faster it will get when i upgraded to 16gb, but 8gb id good enough for now.
