      Comments about Crucial 4GB kit (2GBx2) 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-5300:

In front of two only options, one, buy a new iMac - too expensive! - and two, spend [$] to bring the memory up to 4 GB, I definitely suggest this last one. My iMac is like new and runs Lion smoothly. As for Lion, well, it is not a big bang, but updating your iMac with OS X is a cheaper way to slow down the inevitable obsoleting process.

      Comments about Crucial 4GB kit (2GBx2) 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-5300:

I used this kit to upgrade the factory RAM on my mid-2010 MacBook (white, regular) to its maximum capacity of 8GB (officially, the max RAM of this model is 4GB, but it is proven that 8GB is the real maximum). Kit was cheap and provided an immense performance boost in all areas of my laptop: using multiple applications at once is now seamless (especially when using memory hogs like certain web browsers and photo-manipulation software). If you have a MacBook, the essential upgrades you should perform are installing extra RAM and installing a Solid-State Drive (do at least one of them). If you how and what to look for, the cost of these upgrades may be cheaper than you think. And once you have experienced the difference with just these two changes, the factory defaults are almost laughable and certainly undesirable.

              Comments about Crucial 4GB kit (2GBx2) 200-pin SODIMM DDR2 PC2-5300:

As integrated graphics media accelerators (GMAs) replace separate graphics cards in notebooks and all-in-one desktop computers, maxing out your system RAM makes sense. While it won't increase the amount of RAM reserved by the GMA, more RAM means fewer data swaps to the hard drive and that alone speeds up graphics and video performance. PowerPoint slide shows run smoother on multiple monitors and videos play without stuttering and stalling.

Crucial's price is a fraction of what they charge at the, well, you know, store, whether as an upgrade when you order or as an aftermarket upgrade.

The ram came with no instructions at all, the live chat resulted in no help at all. As long as you can find where the ram resides in your laptop on your own, The product itself is great. Took my system from a 2.0 to a 2.8. Works lightning fast now

                  200-pin SODIMM

                  DDR 200-pin SODIMM
DDR 200-pin SODIMM: Approximately 2.625 in. by 1.25 in. (66.7 mm by 31.75 mm)
                    DDR2 200-pin SODIMM
                  DDR2 200-pin SODIMM: Approximately 2.625 in. by 1.18 in. (66.7 mm by 30 mm)

A small outline dual inline memory module (SODIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). SODIMMs get their name because they are smaller and thinner than regular DIMMs. The gold pins on the bottom of the SODIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a SODIMM are not connected.

200-pin SODIMMs are used to provide DDR and DDR2 SDRAM memory for notebook computers. 200-pin SODIMMs are available in PC2700 DDR SDRAM, PC3200 DDR SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-6400 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-5300 SDRAM, DDR2 PC2-4200 SDRAM and DDR2 PC2-3200 SDRAM. To use DDR or DDR2 memory, your system motherboard must have 200-pin SODIMM slots and a DDR- or DDR2-enabled chipset. A DDR or DDR2 SODIMM will not fit into a standard SDRAM SODIMM socket. (Information about which memory technology your system uses is included in the Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool.)

The number of black components on a 200-pin SODIMM can vary, but it always has 100 pins on the front and 100 pins on the back, for a total of 200. 200-pin SODIMMs are approximately 2.625 inches long and 1.25 inches high, though the heights can vary. Like 144-pin SODIMMs, 200-pin SODIMMs have one small notch within the row of pins; however, the notch on the 200-pin SODIMMs is closer to the left side of the module.
