DDR3 240-pin DIMM

240-pin DDR3 DIMM
Approximately 5.25 in. by 1.18 in. (133.35 mm by 30 mm)

Crucial 240-pin DIMMs are used in DDR3 memory for desktop computers. DDR3 is the latest generation of memory with an improved architecture that allows it to transmit data more quickly.

A dual inline memory module (DIMM) consists of a number of memory components (usually black) that are attached to a printed circuit board (usually green). The gold pins on the bottom of the DIMM provide a connection between the module and a socket on a larger printed circuit board. The pins on the front and back of a DIMM are not connected to each other.

Each 240-pin DIMM provides a 64-bit data path (72-bit for ECC or registered or Fully Buffered modules). (The Ballistix™ and Ballistix Tracer™ high-performance memory do not come in 72-bit or registered modules.) Standard DDR3 240-pin DIMMs are currently available in PC3-8500 (DDR3 1066MHz) and PC3-10600 (DDR3 1333MHz) speeds. Additional speeds will be added as the technology becomes available.

To use DDR3 memory, your system motherboard must have 240-pin DIMM slots and a DDR3-enabled chipset. This is because a DDR3 SDRAM DIMM will not fit into a standard DDR2 DIMM socket or a DDR DIMM socket.

The number of black components on a 240-pin DIMM can vary, but it always has 120 pins on the front and 120 pins on the back, for a total of 240. 240-pin DIMMs are approximately 5.25 inches long and 1.18 inches high, though the heights can vary. While 240-pin DDR3 DIMMS, 240-pin DDR2 DIMMs, 184-pin DDR DIMMs, and 168-pin DIMMs are approximately the same size, 240-pin DIMMs and 184-pin DIMMs have only one notch within the row of pins.

This was the only DIMM that showed up as fully compatible with my ASUS P8H77-I motherboard. So far, after one week, they are working fine. They were immediately recognized by the BIOS and fully populated the system. The price was ok, comparable with other sources I found at the same time. I know from past experience that Crucial is a reputable and reliable company to deal with. I recommend them to anyone looking for PC memory.

usually things go smooth on this site. but i had a horrible experience when my order/package was lost. They kept telling me to wait 9 days (even though it normally takes 3-4 days to get to me when I order from this site) and after 9 days i had to wait a few more days to get a replacement part. I lost a $2000 sale with my customer because of this. Ill probably start shopping somewhere else with a better more up to date tracking system. maybe someone who uses fedex.

I've had Kingston products for several years but their later products appear to have low tolerances be it a memory card or a RAM.
Have just switched to Crucial RAMs for a few days now based on my vendor's recommendation.
It seems to work like a charm on MSI's B85M-G43. Since the board has 4 slots, I'll fill up all slots gradually. Hope to have a lasting system.

I purchased Corsairs memory after checking their site for motherboard compatibility, it did not work. I went to Crucial's site and used their compatibility wizard and purchased two 8 Gig sticks of DDR3 and it worked perfectly. The motherboard is an ASUS P9X79 Pro. Not only did Crucial's memory work it was 30% less that Corsairs. I am sold on all future builds, and memory upgrades, Crucial makes it easy and cost effective, GREAT VALUE.....

So far, so good. I purchased an ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe/WD motherboard and filled it to capacity with 16GB of Crucial memory. With my SanDisk Extreme 120GB SSD and Windows 8, my programs load and run so quickly compared to my last PC. Do yourself a favor; build your own PC, get quality parts like Crucial memory, and have no worries.
