Memory:

DDR2 PC2-5300

Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 2GB
Slots: 2

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

Comments about Crucial 1GB Upgrade for a Dell Inspiron 630m System:

I was worried if this was the fix I needed to help my laptop faster at startup, but to my surprise it was a great choice. I bought the max memory my laptop would hold and Crucial's website helped me pick the right type of memory for me. If only I knew where that second memory stick was supposed to go. I quickly looked up my laptops instructions on how to install memory for my laptop and with no problem it was done. It took me maybe 10 minutes. I have noticed faster load time but what do you expect with dial-up. For the amount of music and pictures I have saved on my computer I need all the extra storage I could get!
