Computer is 6 years old. Striving to extend its life. A little research on how to install and the confidence that Crucial gave me that I was buying the proper product made this an easy project with a high degree of peace of mind that I had NO where else.

Comments about Crucial 1GB Upgrade for a Dell Dimension XPS Generation 2 System:

This is an upgrade from 2GB=4x512MB to 4GB=4x1GB of RAM. I'm having problems. So is it the memory or is it the Operating System? This memory passes the rigorous diagnostic test Memtest v4.00 (DEC 2009), and Dell's own diagnostics (which run in DOS mode). This part is listed as compatible with a Dell Dimension XPS (Gen 2), which uses the Intel i875P chipset. After installing the RAM, Windows ALWAYS hard locks after a short time. I am only able to use Windows for long periods in safe mode; I've been doing a lot of this -- troubleshooting to see if the problems are not memory related. So far, it seems Windows XP 32-bit and/or the XPS Gen 2 is NOT compatible with his upgrade as Micron suggests. At this time I am not going to return the product. I'm going to try and tinker to see if I can yet get it to work. Still, I'm out a good deal of money for something that may never meet my expectations. Perhaps Linux is an alternative.
