Storage:

SATA

Storage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be sent or received. This is determined by your motherboard. A drive with a higher transfer rate will only run at the rate of the motherboard's transfer rate.

Cache is a type of working memory that allows the drive to perform faster.

RPM is the rotations per minute of a hard drive which effects the speed of data transfer.

Solid State Drives are non-moving memory, so access speed is instant.

Graphics Card:

AGP 8X Graphics

External Connector: 15-hole connector

Graphics Card A circuit board fitted to a computer containing the necessary video memory and other electronics to provide a bitmap display. Adaptors vary in the resolution (number of pixels) and number of colours they can display, and in the refresh rate they support. These parameters are also limited by the monitor to which the adaptor is connected.

For this particular home situation, I'd be a casual user, but I am professionally in IT support, so I'm a little more than casual. This was for a not-so-new desktop computer, that had seemingly plenty of processing power, but miserable performance. It had 256MB RAM, which probably was good at the time of purchase, but had lost ground over time. I decided to try bumping up the RAM before consigning it to the scrap heap. Voila! I only had one little gotcha. It failed on first start-up, but I searched the web and, when someone mentioned it takes 20 psi of pressure to properly seat these critters, I opened it back up. The memory banks were under a cable cluster and hard to get to, and I had not quite gotten one corner down where it belonged. Seated that and everything did just what it was supposed to.I suppose that would be my only complaint, and it's not about Crucial per se. Why do these memory sticks need 20psi? I know it's comparing apples and oranges, but Macintosh memory, laptop memory, etc., just slip right in and clip right in. Is there something mystical about this? Is it the memory's requirement or the mother board's?On the same topic, I wish Crucial's installation docs online would have FAQ's about this sort of thing that are in-your-face warnings, rather than making me search the web for a hint. "If you get continuous beeps on power up, check to be sure the sticks are well seated." If they're there, I didn't find them. It should have been easy to find. That said, Crucial is known among my circle of IT tech colleagues as The Place To Go for memory needs. Easy to identify, wide range of availability, easy to order, best price,[...]

Comments about Crucial 1GB Upgrade for a HP - Compaq Presario SR1500NX Series System:

Our system is mainly for personal use, but it also serves as our "at home" business computer. We've been needing to upgrade the RAM for quite some time, but neither the husband or I had ever attempted to do CPU upgrades.... just a little fearful of "getting our hands in there and messing something up".... But, I am so glad we did this! It was easy to install and has made such and improvement to the CPU's speed and to our overall computer experience. I am soooo proud of us! (semi-retired).

My computer was so slow that a reboot would take almost 20 minutes...and I had to reboot almost daily due to many errors including "NOT RESPONDING" I had 512k and went to a gig, this solved my performance issues and now if I reboot, it comes back up much more quickly. I will be adding another gig shortly which will really make this thing fly.
