Memory:

DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 PC2-6400

Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 4GB
Slots: 2

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

Storage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be sent or received. This is determined by your motherboard. A drive with a higher transfer rate will only run at the rate of the motherboard's transfer rate.

Cache is a type of working memory that allows the drive to perform faster.

RPM is the rotations per minute of a hard drive which effects the speed of data transfer.

Solid State Drives are non-moving memory, so access speed is instant.

I need to upgrade the speed in both my laptops. this was the easiest way an least expensive way to go. I can now run SEVERAL apps with no lag or any slowing down at all. I even changed the amount of memory set for the video card to let it use more. Best upgrade i made so far on these. Not to mention i called dell and they wanted 4 times the amount of money then i paid and [...]was even more.

I ordered two orders this past week. The two gigs (2x1gig modules) I put in my Dell E1505 did great. I run XP on it. The 4gigs I put in my wifes new Dell 1525(2x2gig modules)(VISTA OS) killed her computer DEAD!!! We are having to ship the new computer back to Dell to the depot. I had the laptop sitting on an antistatic mat when I installed the two modules. When I tried to boot the machine back up it was dead. I replaced the old modues back in ...still dead. The worst part was contacting CRUCIAL four times and I still don't have an RMA number. Not only did it kill my new wifes new computer, but it looks like I am stuck with 4 gigs of worthless memory. The chatline gal [...] refused to speak to me after she found out I had a problem. I am turning it over to my state consumer advocate if I don't hear something from them soon.

Comments about Crucial 4GB kit (2GBx2) Upgrade for a Dell Inspiron 1525 System:

Who would've guessed that, when you go from 1gb to 4gb, Windows Vista becomes a decent operating system? Memory breathed new life into an aging, dual-boot laptop's Vista side, and on the Linux side vastly increased the number of programs I could run at once. I don't do any intense gaming, but it's more than enough to have several web browsers, an email client, media player, finance application, spreadsheets, text editors, and a note taking app open all at once. Add that to Crucial's rock-solid reliability, and my upgrade was a winner.

Note that the upgrade didn't actually make my computer /faster/. (Except for a couple of specific activities, like booting Vista. Heh.) It's mostly just that now I can run more than a single program at a time.

Website very easy to use. I upgraded RAM for an older Dell laptop. I just had to input laptop info and website suggested various options including pros and cons of each option. I ended up getting 4mb with understanding all may not be used by laptop, and am happy with purchase. Price was fair. Overall satisfied.

The memory modules I purchased from Crucial really did the trick! I was given a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista. The OS was so unstable I had to replace it with Windows 8. I feel so sure that without the 4GB of RAM the process would have been so much longer! With Windows 8 everything runs so smoothly. I know the new OS has a lot to do with that but, when I have a few apps running at the same time, switching between apps is really quick! These memory modules work without a hitch! Way to go Crucial! Thanks for a great product!

I bought this because I thought I need it but I was wrong. there is something else wrong with my computer. I did not need the RAM which is why I send it back but if I ever need anything from you. I would order it because it was easy, fast, and I was really impressed with your services. I was just dispointed in my computer. I was told it was old about 6 years old and that I need a new computer. I didn't know my computer was that old? lol. but, I really enjoy learning about your computer and would definely encourages my friends to do business with you. Mahalo.
