Memory:

DDR2 PC2-5300

Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 2GB
Slots: 2

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

I have a 10 year old laptop that is in perfect working condition - except that it didn't have enough memory to handle the latest and greatest software and it took FOREVER to boot up.

A quick order at Crucial did the trick! I upgraded the laptop to the maximum capacity allowed (for my 10 year old laptop) and VOILA! Boot-up time is a fraction of what it was before, and I can run multiple apps and quickly toggle between all of them.

This was my first - but definitely not my last - purchase from Crucial!

online diagnose was helpful. once i installed the 2 gigs the system crashed twice. I took one of the sticks out which seemed to have fixed the problem. either the one stick was bad or the 2 gigs were to much for the 2 year old dell could handle taking it up from 512

This was my "salvation" at the time. I was running out of RAM, yet didn't really need a new computer. Fortunately, my computer had the capacity to add RAM, so I should be OK for a couple years!!
