Storage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be sent or received. This is determined by your motherboard. A drive with a higher transfer rate will only run at the rate of the motherboard's transfer rate.

Comments about Crucial 1GB Upgrade for a Apple iMac 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo (17-inch) System:

I purchased Crucial 1G RAM to increase my iMac 2006 memory to 1,500G. It already had 512 MB. Determining the correct amount of RAM to purchase was problematic as I was not sure whether or not to get another 512MB and add on to that or 1G and hope the "pairs" would sync together. I only needed 1G to update to Snow Leopard and don't intend to go any farther than that with this computer. Read that both slots should match, heard it didnt matter, got differnet opinions. Well, the 1G RAM worked just fine and my computer stats indicate that it recognizes the new memory. When the RAM goes into the slot it must go in permamently as I was not able to get it out but that is OK, I do not plan to ever remove it but beware if you do! as it just will not come out once in. There was also sketchy tech support just before and after the Christmas holidays.

My iMac from 2006 is still trucking along. I decided I may as well max out the ram if we're going to keep using this thing. Now I don't have to wait forever when switching between Photoshop and an internet browser. This means more cats on the internet for everybody.

I've got a 7 year old iMac that my daughter uses primarily for homework, surfing, etc. She's a high school sophomore and I wanted to extend the life of the computer for a couple of years until she gets a laptop for college. The computer would just bog down trying to load stuff - the additional memory made it much faster. Should be able to get her through the next couple of years now!Pretty easy to install. You do need to have a special Philips head screwdriver to get the cover off, as the head of the screw isn't very deep.Product arrived [...] as advertised.

It was very easy to install this RAM. My iMac, bought in 2006, was fast becoming obsolete and I needed to do this in order to be able to run the newer 10.6.3 OS. I don't notice any increase in speed, although the upgrade quadrupled my RAM, but at least I can keep up with new Mac developments and prolong the life of my machine. Hats off the the store manager at the San Francisco flagship store for recommending this affordable course of action.
