Memory:

DDR3 PC3-10600

Memory Type: DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 8GB
Slots: 2

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

Storage:

SATA 2 - 3Gb/s

SATA Version -- SATA 2 - 3Gb/s

Storage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be sent or received. This is determined by your motherboard. A drive with a higher transfer rate will only run at the rate of the motherboard's transfer rate.

Cache is a type of working memory that allows the drive to perform faster.

RPM is the rotations per minute of a hard drive which effects the speed of data transfer.

Solid State Drives are non-moving memory, so access speed is instant.

Chipset:

Intel HM55 chipset

Chipset is a set of integrated circuits that have a specific purpose in a computer system, a group of microchips used together to perform a single task.

Comments about Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) Upgrade for a Gateway NV59 Series System:

I originally ordered the 8GB kit to boost my computer's performance when handling high-requirement games, and large photoshop files. I have not only seen a large improvement in the running quality of these programs, but many other programs as well. To top it off, a strange stuttering occurance that used to happen while listening to music, no longer happens! As an added bonus, these RAM modules also consume less power than my original ones!

The shipping was extraordinarily fast, even with the slowest avaliable option. Unfortunately, there was a bit of an issue with one of my modules being defective on delivery, but that was fixed easily after a phone call and 24 hours.

Comments about Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) Upgrade for a Gateway NV59 Series System:

I am glad the memory is working out. I previously bought 8GB from another manufacture (PNY) and it created a boot error. Error cased me to re-install OS and re-install all my currenr programs. I was trying to save a few dollars and paid for what I got

I have not received the memory because I chose
regular delivery and it has been sitting in the
POSTAL distribution center waiting for the dead but workers to sort the first class mail and deliver all 1st class, priority mail before trucking it to my local post office, a distance of 25 miles! ONE WEEK since the tracking software showed it's arrival. Local PO cannot help.
