Memory:

DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 PC2-6400

Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 8GB
Slots: 4

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

Comments about Crucial 2GB kit (1GBx2) Upgrade for a HP - Compaq Pavilion a6000n System:

At first, the computer wouldn't boot up with the new RAM. I went online and found out that the new larger memory had to be installed in the closest slots. I reversed the order of the cards, and it started and ran perfectly. It starts quicker and doesn't lock up nearly as often. Windows Vista ( 32 bit )

I was experiencing slow performance from my PC, and Norton reported that my memory was low. This upgrade was a good and economical way to breathe new life into my PC. I'm now back to where I was when it was new.
