Memory:

DDR PC2700, DDR PC3200

Memory Type: DDR PC2700, DDR PC3200, DDR (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 4GB
Slots: 4

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules. If your model uses the Pentium 4 with a 800MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) you must use the PC3200 parts. If your system has the Pentium 4 with the 533MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) you can use either the PC2700 or PC3200 parts.

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

Storage:

SATA

External Drive Bays -- 2 x 5.25" and 1 x 3.5"

Internal Drive Bays -- 2 x 3.5"

Storage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be sent or received. This is determined by your motherboard. A drive with a higher transfer rate will only run at the rate of the motherboard's transfer rate.

Cache is a type of working memory that allows the drive to perform faster.

RPM is the rotations per minute of a hard drive which effects the speed of data transfer.

Solid State Drives are non-moving memory, so access speed is instant.

Chipset:

Intel 865PE chipset

Chipset is a set of integrated circuits that have a specific purpose in a computer system, a group of microchips used together to perform a single task.

Graphics Card:

AGP 8X Graphics

External Connector: 15-hole connector

Graphics Card A circuit board fitted to a computer containing the necessary video memory and other electronics to provide a bitmap display. Adaptors vary in the resolution (number of pixels) and number of colours they can display, and in the refresh rate they support. These parameters are also limited by the monitor to which the adaptor is connected.

I had used my present computer for six years with a slow dial-up connection and no particular objection to the leisurely pace. When I recently switched to high speed internet I discovered that my drive had only 256 MB of memory; this explained why I had to wait so long for some actions to complete. After serious deliberation, I ordered the 2 GB kit from Crucial. [...] I am no computer expert, so the prospect of disassembling my CPU daunted me. The fact that an ignoramus like me can install two new memory modules without incident should be heartening to any novice. The result was like having a new computer. It does justice to my high speed connection and makes my PhotoShop program run much more efficiently. My only criticism is that the instruction "press firmly on the ends of the module until it snaps into place" can be a little misleading. For someone of only modest strength, a certain amount of manipulation and fairly hard pressure are required.

When installing, push down really hard until you hear the snap of the bracket. Your video shows the guy, using his fingers to flip the brackets. When I did that, they did not seat themselves properly. I contacted you customer rep., Shannon, and she was of great help. She suggested I install one at a time turning the computer off and on to be sure all four sticks were good. It worked. Thank you again.

Prior to adding 2GB RAM, my Dell 4160 only had 512MB and starting up the computer was super slow and really lagging. After the addition of the 2GB, the computer boots up quickly! Difference is like night and day.

I bought this to upgrade my Dell desktop. The memorey arived in a couple of days and was easy to install (watch video). It made a big improvement in my computer's performance. Not as much as I had hoped for, but maybe my expectations were too high (it's 8-9 years old).

It's only been a couple of weeks, but so far so good. It was worth the gamble and the money.

I also bought memeory for my wife's Dell laptop, and that worked out fantasitic. It made a huge improvement.
