Memory:

DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 PC2-5300

Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 4GB
Slots: 4

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

Storage:

SATA

Storage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be sent or received. This is determined by your motherboard. A drive with a higher transfer rate will only run at the rate of the motherboard's transfer rate.

Cache is a type of working memory that allows the drive to perform faster.

RPM is the rotations per minute of a hard drive which effects the speed of data transfer.

Solid State Drives are non-moving memory, so access speed is instant.

Graphics Card:

PCI Express x16 Graphics

External Connector: 15-hole connector

Graphics Card A circuit board fitted to a computer containing the necessary video memory and other electronics to provide a bitmap display. Adaptors vary in the resolution (number of pixels) and number of colours they can display, and in the refresh rate they support. These parameters are also limited by the monitor to which the adaptor is connected.

I run a Windows Vista 32 bit OS on a Dell Inspiron. The 2 GB of memory was just no longer cutting it. I needed the ability to run more applications and the means to run virtual machines without bringing host applications to a halt. This stick of memory was very easy to install, the price was good[...]Crucial.com will always be my source for memory!

It was easy to install but I could not get it to work with my internal WiFi (NetGear WG3111). I tried to uninstall/reinstall without success. Finally had to have a new driver downloaded that is designed to work with this much memery.

I needed to install more memory on my home PC to improve performance.
What I liked best was the ability of the scanning of my computer to find out the exact type of memory to get for my computer.

It increased page loading when I did not think it could. Great Only reason for not buying another one is I have a 32 bit system and adding another gig would do no good since windows 32 bit systems only make use of 3 gigs even if 4 are present.

Comments about Crucial 1GB Upgrade for a Dell Inspiron 530 System:

I had only a small bit of trouble fitting it into the slot. I found that I needed to fasten one side completely before even attempting to push in the other side. My computer is significantly faster now and able to run more applications simultaneously. I only had one GB of RAM before this, and my OS used nearly all of it. This upgrade should have been included with the computer.
