Memory:

DDR2 PC2-5300

Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 4GB
Slots: 4

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

Storage:

SATA

External Drive Bays -- 2 x 5.25"

Internal Drive Bays -- 2 x 3.5"

Storage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be sent or received. This is determined by your motherboard. A drive with a higher transfer rate will only run at the rate of the motherboard's transfer rate.

Cache is a type of working memory that allows the drive to perform faster.

RPM is the rotations per minute of a hard drive which effects the speed of data transfer.

Solid State Drives are non-moving memory, so access speed is instant.

A computer retailer gave me this website after I had computer tuned up and registry errors cleaned out even though I had the software that was supposed to take care of that. I constantly had virt.mem. errors due to manufact, small ram mem installed and slow program booting up and was told this would help immensly just by adding this stick (their price was over twice what I paid at Crucial). It did alittle but am not a comp wiz and maybe something I'm overlooking.Harddrive is only @ 43% after 4 years of use.It did make it alittle faster than before but still long time for programs to load up for use,and was told by retailer in what order to put sticks after I called them when I received it.Still happy with what I spent to make it alittle faster.Maybe doing something wrong,I dont know.

Since installing the RAM which boosted my system from 1 GB to 3 GB of RAM, I have had 2 blue screens of death (BSoD)in 2 weeks. I am not sure if the RAM is the cause but before this I had maybe 2 BSoD in 2 years. ?

Used the Crucial analyzer app to recommend options. Ordered the memory to increase RAM from 1 to 4 GB
It arrived quickly. Install was easy. Viewed Crucial's install tips since it
had been 10 years since I last upgraded one. Plan to upgrade our other PC soon.

I needed to add memory and took a chance with Crucial. Part of my decision to buy from them was their detailed "how to" instructions which were very helpful to a first timer. Parts arrived in a timely manner and were easy to install.

Comments about Crucial 1GB Upgrade for a Dell Dimension 5150 System:

Product was everything that I expected. I must admit it was a bit intimidating to install the four memory boards. I guess I was afraid that I might break one, but it all worked out. If you are bold enough to remove the cover of your computer, then you can do this. I would recommend first seeing what the inside of your machine looks like first, then proceed. Well as you can see, I do not do this every day.
