Memory:

DDR PC2700, DDR PC3200

Memory Type: DDR PC2700, DDR PC3200, DDR (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 4GB
Slots: 4

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

Comments about Crucial 1GB kit (512MBx2) Upgrade for a Dell Dimension 8300 Series System:

My old (circa 2003)Dell Windows XP computer crashed recently, and in fixing that problem, my computer tech found that two of the four 512 MB memory DIMMS were dead. The two Crucial DIMMS that I installed about 8 years ago, were fine. I ordered another two after checking with Crucial's systems scan to be sure I was ordering the correct items that would match the old pair.
Although, I was sure I'd order for Crucial, I also "shopped" a couple of other online sellers, but either they didn't have any DIMMS of the specs I needed, or they had "refurbished" ones. (how do they refurbish DIMMS?) I've been using Crucial memory products for years, and just ordered a Crucial SSD for a new system I'm building. It's great that a company that is on the leading edge of the new technology also can provide products for people like me who still need memory for legacy system.
The kit arrived in two days, and they only difficult about installing the memory units was carrying my heavy old PC into another room, where there was room to open it. Actually installing the sticks took about 30 seconds.

Comments about Crucial 1GB kit (512MBx2) Upgrade for a Dell Dimension 8300 Series System:

I used the memory-finder and the memory works ok, but the system only recognized half of it. Apparently it needed to be one-sided, that this mother-board doesn't see both sides. So I got an increase, but not what I paid for. I'd send it back for an exchange, but I need that computer up and running and I can't afford to order more and wait for a refund until next month.I still recommend it because Crucial delivered fast and I have had good success with other upgrades.
