SATA

Storage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be sent or received. This is determined by your motherboard. A drive with a higher transfer rate will only run at the rate of the motherboard's transfer rate.

Cache is a type of working memory that allows the drive to perform faster.

RPM is the rotations per minute of a hard drive which effects the speed of data transfer.

Solid State Drives are non-moving memory, so access speed is instant.

I've got one of the first MacBook Pros that came out, and my 4-something year old laptop has been well-used (loaded up with files and applications during grad school, fended off viruses throughout Southeast Asia for years, and filled to the brim with photos.) I'd never considered buying another GB of memory because I'd always heard it would be prohibitively expensive. Then the guy at the [...] told me I could get another GB for between $50 and $100 (he thought), and since my laptop was so old, Apple didn't carry this part. He 'unofficially' recommended Crucial.com, and assured me the site would walk me through to figure out the right part. Crucial's site was easy, walked me through to the precise part I needed, didn't make me feel like a tool for not knowing more about computers, and had the part for well under the price I'd expected. [...] my computer is happy.I did a quick google search to figure out why I was having trouble getting the laptop to recognize the new memory-- the consensus (which proved helpful) was that you have to really push the card in hard-- harder than you'd think. Boom. Works. Happiness ensues. Thanks, Crucial ;)

    So far so good

Computer crashed once unexpectedly since I installed the new RAM. I am hopeful that it wasn't caused by this product. So far so good.
