Memory:

DDR2 PC2-5300

Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 2GB
Slots: 2

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

You can never have too much memory. If you aren't sure if more memory will help boost your Windows computer's speed, Start the Task Manager, a shortcut is hold down [Ctrl], [Shift] and [Esc]. On the performance tab, the "Commit Charge (K)" area will show you the "Total" RAM memory chips installed (minus shared video memory) available to the Operating System. The "Limit" is your RAM plus PageFile (which is a file on the hard drive being used as RAM). This is a legacy function of Windows (from the old days when memory was very expensive) that is difficult to force the computer not to use -- it is many times slower than a RAM chip. If your "Peak" is above your "Total", you could improve your speed with more memory. Your current usage is displayed at the very bottom of the Task Manager as "Commit Charge:" Ratio = "memory currently in use"/"total RAM plus PageFile", if the first number is higher than your "Total" RAM, a reboot or more memory will greatly help performance. Note: the "CPU Usage:" should be idle = 0% most of the time, if your system is "paging" or over-running your physical RAM chips, the CPU Usage will be greater than 0% because it is VERY busy dealing with the PageFile. Also note the PF Usage when idle... You can also look at the Processes Tab to see what the memory usage is (of most) of your processes. Hopefully this will help people decide if more memory will help their performance. If you do need more memory, Crucial is the place to get it...

Finding the correct RAM chip was quick and very easy. Pricing was great. I liked the video instruction on installing it, although I didn't need to see it. Ordering was simple. Received it, installed it, and I noticed a quicker boot up and shut down, and a slightly quicker response in most applications, even for my 7 year old computer with a limit of 2GBs. It was worth it.
