DDR2 PC2-5300

Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 2GB

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

Storage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be sent or received. This is determined by your motherboard. A drive with a higher transfer rate will only run at the rate of the motherboard's transfer rate.

Cache is a type of working memory that allows the drive to perform faster.

RPM is the rotations per minute of a hard drive which effects the speed of data transfer.

Solid State Drives are non-moving memory, so access speed is instant.

This product is a commodity; it performed as I expected.

I bought upgrades for my intel mac book, and for my old ppc G5 imac. The imac had minimal memory (512M I think) and it now runs much faster. The ibook had 1Gb and bringing it up to two only seems to help massive data processing, which I do occasionally.

I suspect the virtualization stuff (I have Parallels and run linux occasionally) would be much better but have not yet tested it.

Worth the money I suppose

Xbench shows slightly slower speeds with this new ram. Otherwise the 2 gb really helps browsing and having a few apps open.

The install was pretty easy; took 3 tries though, because you REALLY need to push them in pretty firmly and that is not made clear. Do that, and it won't take you 3 tries!

Have used Crucial 2X now to add ram to an Apple imac and macbook. I really liked Crucial's scanning process to identify the type of memory needed for my daughter's 6yr old macbook. Delivery is fast, reliable, and free. Installation instructions from Apple forum are excellent.

I upgraded from 1GB to 2GB. As this is the only upgrade available, I guess I recommend it as it's probably better than nothing. That said, I'm a casual / light user, and this upgrade has made little difference. I still get pinwheeling and Excel still stops responding from time to time, and other apps like Word and email hang a bit.

The product is fine, it just doesn't provide a noticeable difference, and as I said earlier, I'm a very casual and uncomplicated user.

Crucial.com was great, I will buy from them again.

I really love that Crucial tells you exactly what you need. It's a bummer that my computer can't handle more than 2 GB of RAM, but it's a whole lot better than the whopping 512 MB I had before this upgrade. I installed the RAM on my laptop with the help of a friend... It's hard to install, but I'm pretty sure that's due to a design flaw in the computer. We did eventually get it in (push REALLY hard). The computer accepted the RAM just fine and now it's working great.
