Memory:

DDR2 PC2-5300

Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 4GB
Slots: 2

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

SATA Version -- SATA 1 - 1.5Gb/s

Storage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be sent or received. This is determined by your motherboard. A drive with a higher transfer rate will only run at the rate of the motherboard's transfer rate.

Cache is a type of working memory that allows the drive to perform faster.

RPM is the rotations per minute of a hard drive which effects the speed of data transfer.

Solid State Drives are non-moving memory, so access speed is instant.

The Crucial System Scanner took the guesswork out finding the right memory for my laptop. The 2mb memory module I needed was priced reasonably and Crucial got it to me fast! This is my 2nd time buying memory from Crucial and I would use them again!

I plugged this memory upgrade into my old HP-Compaq NC6400 to give it a nice boost from its slow...oh-so-slow speed of 1GB RAM. It was real easy to snap into the laptop...after removing the keyboard...and plugging it back in.

I highly recommend this as a lower-end computer upgrade.

Comments about Crucial 2GB Upgrade for a HP - Compaq Business Notebook nc6400 System:

I was beginning to max out the 2Gb of RAM in my system (commonly having a commit charge of 1.6 to 1.8 Gb), so I wanted to increase RAM. Used Crucial's web tool to analyze my system and recommend memory. I went for the biggest upgrade, which was to fill both slots with a 2Gb DIMM for a total of 4Gb. Win XP recognizes 3.37Gb RAM so perhaps a single 2Gb upgrade would have been more economical. But I understand that matched pairs of DDR2 memory give better performance so I'm happy maxing it out. Changing the memory was fast though my laptop made me remove the keyboard to access one of the DIMM slots which was a little awkward. I ran the BIOS memory diag after installing and no errors were reported. I'm a satisfied customer.

This was very easy to install in the laptop bottom location . There was already a 1GB card under the keyboard. This location would have been more complex to replace. I added a 2GB card to existing 1GB and didn't see a huge increase in speed, but I need to test it more with multiple open apps and multimedia (video). Crucial provides great "how-to" instructions in various formats. YouTube tutorials were very good.
