Storage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be sent or received. This is determined by your motherboard. A drive with a higher transfer rate will only run at the rate of the motherboard's transfer rate.

Cache is a type of working memory that allows the drive to perform faster.

RPM is the rotations per minute of a hard drive which effects the speed of data transfer.

Solid State Drives are non-moving memory, so access speed is instant.

The memory kit was a fast and install on my iMac. The simplicity of installation was probably influenced more by the Mac's design rather than the Memory Module Kit, but the media was a perfect fit. Kudos to the Crucial website for the tools provided (Memory Advisor and System Scanner) which removed any doubt I was ordering the correct kit. I am barely computer literate, and this was so simple a process that even I felt competent in ordering and installing the memory myself.

Bought this one to upgrade my home computer and the modules were different sized than the original Mac memory. Still, it did go in so I fired up the computer w/new memory and got nothing. Required a pair of needle nosed pliers to remove defected modules. I did order a 2nd set from Crucial which worked. For both fewer headaches and less damage to your computer I would recommend you stick with the original memory and pay the higher price for Apple memory.

No problem to install if you download the instructions. All you need is a really small Philips screwdriver and enough sense to not touch the gold contacts.

I have a seven-year-old iMac that still runs beautifully, but was getting increasingly (and frustratingly) slower in loading files and opening windows. I bought a Crucial kit (2gb) and installed it myself, and it's like a brand new computer.

I was referred to Crucial by a specialist from another retailer and when I received the memory, that person walked me through installing it. That was good as there were no instructions included. I purchased the memory as I bought a new smart phone that couldn't sync to my computer & the computer has been running slow for a while as well. So far, the memory seems to have increased my speed. I haven't yet synced my smart phone as I also need to install a new operating system to get it working.

What is important is how knowledgeable and efficient Crucial is. Their service and response was outstanding and without a doubt, their service was excellent. Something a little different this day and time.
