because it's for a laptop - this memory was much pricier than the typical desktop memory I've purchased in the past. I'm not sure it helped increase speed as much as I'd hoped. Maybe if I'd quadrupled instead of only doubled? (only reason I didn't was do to cost). Anyway, I also wish there was a diagram online to show where the 'Memory Slot Door/Access' was for different models of laptops (so you don't have to guess & poke around). It was still relatively easy to do.

[...] I used their own "scan your computer" function to see if the memory would be compatible, and I purchased what that scan recommended. DO NOT DO THIS FOR OLD COMPUTERS. My memory arrived and I used the instructions to install it correctly. The computer worked for about 10 minutes, then the hard drive crashed and I have to take it some where to see what they can recover. So, my advice is, don't trust the recs from crucial memory, do your own research.

Comments about Crucial 1GB Upgrade for a Dell Inspiron 1150 System:

I was continually frustrated by the slow boot up speed and inability to run several programs simultaneously. A friend suggested I look at the Crucial website and see if they had any suggestions. Based on their recommendation, I purchased the 1G upgrade and things are now working faster and more efficiently. Installation instructions were well written and I installed the upgrade without any problems. Wish I had done this upgrade much earlier.

I just had to undo one screw on the memory cover, and pop the chip into the empty socket. Ta-da! Instantly doubled the memory.

          Got delivered fast, too.

Comments about Crucial 1GB Upgrade for a Dell Inspiron 1150 System:

It installed easily. The listing seemed to imply that despite what the Dell website and manuals say that you can have more than 1 GByte installed so I intended to leave one of the existing 256MB modules installed and add this one for a total of 1.25 GB. It just did not work that way, but worked fine with the new 1GB module installed by itself.

Crucial's website made it simple to select the right memory for my very old laptop. The video made it simple to install. Vastly improved speed. I increased from a half Gig to 2 full Gigs, and WOW! Now I can put off getting a new laptop for a couple more years!
