DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 PC2-8500, DDR2 PC2-5300

Memory Type: DDR2 PC2-6400, DDR2 PC2-8500, DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 8GB

Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

Storage:

SATA

Storage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be sent or received. This is determined by your motherboard. A drive with a higher transfer rate will only run at the rate of the motherboard's transfer rate.

Cache is a type of working memory that allows the drive to perform faster.

RPM is the rotations per minute of a hard drive which effects the speed of data transfer.

Solid State Drives are non-moving memory, so access speed is instant.

Graphics Card:

PCI Express x16 Graphics

External Connector: 15-hole connector

Graphics Card A circuit board fitted to a computer containing the necessary video memory and other electronics to provide a bitmap display. Adaptors vary in the resolution (number of pixels) and number of colours they can display, and in the refresh rate they support. These parameters are also limited by the monitor to which the adaptor is connected.

I use this at Home on a Professional Grade Business Machine with 64-Bit O/S. Originally using 1 GB of memory, I upgraded the memory to 5 GB with the potential for 8 GB. Windows 7 Professional is more stable since the upgrade. Only a slight increase in speed overall. However, large manuscript files in Word, and extensive spred sheets no longer bog down. 32-Bit O/S will only recognize up to 3 GB, no matter how much you put in. But using a 64-Bit O/S will utilize and recognize the 5 GB that I currently have in place. I will probably replace the computer rather than purchase any more memory. I now realize how limited the current processor is.

I called because the computer had never had a problem before I installed the memory upgrades. It had a crash the following day. The company suggested I go to another website and download a program to check my memory out. They suggested I remove my original memory and check it with this program, if it didn't find an error their memory was fine, it was mine and could go bad at any time. It is funny mine was working fine for a long time and it could not be theirs, they didn't even check the logs on my computer before suggesting what they did. I guess I got a deal but you don't always want a deal, you want something that functions more than one day.

I purchased 4GB to upgrade to Win7 64bit. Works great. This cheap investment allows me to run Microsoft's newest OS on a 4 year old computer. Thanks Crucial!!

Purchased additional memory for 3 office computers. The diagnostic tool was great, suggested the correct chips. Purchase couldn't be easier, delivery was good, and ease of installation was incredible. Extra performance couldn't be obtained as inexpensively any other way. My IT firm suggested Crucial, and I love you guys! By the way, didn't need the IT company to install, so saved even more!!

I bought this piece of ram for my 3yr old office PC, went home and purchased additional ram for my 7 year old Dell PC and my son's 6 year old PC. I had never purchased ram or installed any hardware before. The scan option was great and the instructions worked perfectly. The increase in speed is great.
