How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS. More information about OS memory maximums can be found here.

Comments about Crucial 512MB Upgrade for a Dell Inspiron 4100 Series System:

My 7 year old laptop was on its way to retirement, but on a leap of faith i decided to see what would happen with just a simple memory upgrade would due. Starting of with the cheap no name brand, I was far from amazed, traumatized, the system had gotten worse. After some homework came to crucial, what a difference. Do a scan system and thats it, they do all the hard work for you. This upgrade is like viagra to an 80 year old. Goes to show you, that there is a difference when it comes to quality and craftsmanship with only a few $$ difference.
