Although the memory can be installed one module at a time, the best performance comes from using matched pairs of modules.

Memory or DRAM is the "working" memory of the computer. It's used to store data for programs (sequences of instructions) on a temporary basis.

SATA

Storage Drives -- hard drives and solid state drives -- are the permanent memory for the programs and documents on your computer.

Data Transfer Rate is the rate at which data can be sent or received. This is determined by your motherboard. A drive with a higher transfer rate will only run at the rate of the motherboard's transfer rate.

Cache is a type of working memory that allows the drive to perform faster.

RPM is the rotations per minute of a hard drive which effects the speed of data transfer.

Solid State Drives are non-moving memory, so access speed is instant.

New HD arrives w/o install instructions and unformatted; however, it is easy to install. Just backup your old HD before installing the new one. Once installed it operated smoothly and accessed my files faster than my old OEM HD.

Hardest time was getting the current 160GB WD drive to clone over to the new WD drive. Tried MANY different products (CloneZilla/WD's cloning tool/Macrium Reflect) and various methods. Finally got it to clone by installing the new drive internal to the laptop, and moving the existing drive to the external USB port.

Upgraded my 2007 Macbook Pro with this!

        Pros

        • Fast
        • Plenty of storage

        Cons

          Best Uses

          • Upgrade an old HD

I upgraded the original hard drive in my 2007 macbook pro with this drive. While it took a bit of effort to install, (I used the guide on iFixit), it was well worth the time. Make sure you backup your files, and have all of the necessary tools and software in order to install the new drive. It's been a week so far and the drive has been insanely fast. Good deal!
