Comments about Crucial 1GB Upgrade for a Dell XPS 630i System:
I purchased this RAM upgrade to experiment with an already plagued system – the Dell XPS 630i, which has inherent problems booting into Windows because of alterations made by Dell to the nForce 650i SLI motherboard and the “ESA” initiative by Dell/Nvidia for enthusiast class systems. The machine runs a Core-2 Quad Q6600 and shipped new with unmatched pairs of 2GB and 1GB, or 3GB total. While only a minor upgrade, as 32-bit XP-Pro OS address only 3.25MB of the 4MB, the RAM performs well by loading programs only slightly faster. Install was simple and took all of three minutes. This review is useless to those looking for performance guidance because the only reason for the purchase of the Crucial Ballistix RAM in 4 - 1GB DIMMs was to determine if there was an outside chance that its installation would somehow help Dell’s defective MOBO boot into Windows – it did not as was expected. Crucial’s advisory tool is great for non-techies that are unsure exactly what to use as an OEM substitute.
